Tyres....recommendations for replacements

I've been using budget performance Kumho Ecsta PS71 for about 2000 klms and it has been magical compared to the worn stock Bridgestone tyres.
Won't lie, the difference could be that in the end I was too used to the 40k used tyres, but even when those had less km on them, I'm quite sure these handle a lot better in wetter conditions (straight, corners and start). I think dry straight line grip the Kumho feel better too (less slip off the line), but not convinced on turn-in grip, I feel there is more 'bog down' towards outside front.

I recently swapped all 4 to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6, they're really good so far!
Nice be interesting how long they last ..

I’m assuming you have a X power .

Ive got 16 months out of my pilot sport 5s and still good I think if I can make it to December that will be 2 years I’ll be happy..

I do punish them with acceleration and they are often losing traction due to the sheer power getting pushed though them ..

But all I all I’ve been really happy over all with the Michelins for grip and above all life span..
May or may not go Michelin again ( maybe just to see what may be better ) not sure yet

I think a lot of the bog down and handling issues with the X power stems from mediocre torque vectoring to narrow tyres and maybe a little chassis design ..

A decent set of tyres are a must them Bridgestones were rubbish at best ..

But I think even top line tyres will not fix some of the issues in handling and take off the x power has..

I’m even going back to my local MG dealer once the 2026 X power hits show rooms to see the difference as I’ve heard they have done some refinement to the suspension and torque vectoring software!!

Yep I have an X-Power, will see how long they last but gotta keep in mind I floor most of the time when the light turns green ahahah

Been running these for about 9k miles now. Fantastic grip but my rears are already on the wear bars so not going to get the same again. Unfortunately a tyre this good is somewhat wasted on the very average chassis of the car and an expensive way of shaving 0.2 second off your 0 to 60mph time.

Will be looking at EV specific sports tyres for a replacement soon.

Goodyear do a EV version of the Eagle 6, is OEM VW factory spec on one of their EV's.

Designated with "+" (for VW spec) symbol.

Has a better "B" fuel rating (I think it's made to be a bit lighter construction) and 68db noise.

Thanks for that - will look into those as well as Hankook ion evo (fitted tesla M3 performance as standard now) and the Michelin Pilot Sport EV, over the summer.

I have a friend with those Hankook as factory fit on his Skoda Enyaq.

He rates them but they have not lasted long. Although I believe some OEM tyre versions have less tread depth when new...like 6-7mm

Thanks for info. Bet they'll last better than the Eagle Asymmetric 6s though!

Still think bang for buck its hard to go past pilot sport 5

Ev tyres are a myth in the sense yes the help range with less rolling resistance but they are for the most part a harder compound ( rule of thumb soft compound better handling harder compound better life span)

That said though the stocky rubbish Bridgestones were not suited to the X powers sheer power so by default they weren’t as grippy so you chew them out fast I think by 10-15k they were shot ..

I’ve clocked around 46000km
and I think I’ve ( being conservative) done attest maybe 25 -30k out of the Michelins

They are wearing as over the last few days I’ve noticed but more slippage on big take offs with traction control on and in the dry ( could be a few other factors ) but there is more loss than before even if small ..

pilot sport 4 are usually the tyre , tyre shops try to sell ( because there now standard fitment on Tesla model 3s stronger side walls blah blah blah )
But I’ve owned 4s and there not as long life as the 5s

As for UUHP tyres there just pointless unless there for track days only and thats it ..

100% awesome grip but just way to soft for any decent life span..

So far I am quite impressed with the Yoko Advan Sports. The V107 is all I could get and they seem fine. Today I got a clean run at the Esses and took the XPower through at 78kph (slowest) They did not squeal or squirm at all. Then I backed off on the highway to 90kph and got 17.2 kWh/100km for the trip (including the fast bit)
