Tyres....recommendations for replacements

A few X Power owner's have gone for
Michelin Pilot Sport 5s. Which are very good. Not specifically EV rated. But they are XL (extra load) so should be fine. Not heard of any complaints about them. Run flat tyres, tend to be a hard ride, as very little give in the side walls. 🙂👍

Have made a call at the local tyre supplier who have given me good advice for many years.

He had a look at the current ones and agreed they are close to the wear indicators. If we were in a wet season he would recommend changing now, but as it is currently dry that can be put off until the end of the year (probably).

He actually likes the tyres currently fitted, which I have found to be very good. He did observe that they do have different reputations in different markets as they are made in different locations. The problem is they are very expensive here. His recommendation is YOKOHAMA ADVAN SPORT EV V108. So I have a set of them reserved, with a 3 for 4 offer.

His other recommendation was to invest in a good Tyre Repair Kit, which is not that expensive. I have ordered one which has the "plugs" rather than the "cord".

The car has just passed 30k km. I expect the Turanzas will last until about 35k. See how these new boots go.

Are you still on the original set of Turanzas? If so you appear to be doing well if you can get 20K+ miles out of them from what I've read elsewhere on the forum some people aren't even getting to 15K.

Yes. These are the original set.
I think the previous owner drove carefully and did not use the full capacity often.
I do much the same.
I expect to being close to 22k miles when they finish.
They still grip very well. Had a guy in an Alpha Romeo push me a bit tonight on the way to work. I came to a set of eases I know quite well. Speed limit is 80kph. I went through them at the legal speed, probably about 5kph over on the exit. The Alpha did well to almost keep in touch.

I have Goodyear Vector 4S Gen 3 245/45 R18 (XL with rim protector)
Find balance of grip/performance/wear to be spot on for an all seasons tyre. Covered 17.5k miles over 13 months and comparatively little loss of tread.
Oh, and with the marginal increase in tyre circumference, the speedo reading matches spot on with readouts from GPS and roadside speed alert signs.

I wonder if anyone tried putting on 235/50 tyres to increase comfort...?
They seem a bit cheaper too.

Was going to get cross climate 3 sports, but they don't seem to come in xpower size. Are cross climate 2s any good?

Thought I would report back. So had to get the tyres changed rapidly yesterday after an M8 bolt went through the front right. Turns out all the rest of the original tyres were knackered, 0 tread left on rear left, which I hadn't noticed as I was checking the rear right all the time, which wasn't quite down to the wear markers. So 27k miles on the Bridgestones was about 3k too much. Embarrassing that I let them get that bad, but hey ho. Have gone for Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 SoundComfort mainly because they could be done straight away. Seems quieter so far, and just under ÂŁ600 for all four. Will see how they perform once the roads dry out. I do need to get the alignment checked (after some bodywork fixes from a bollard that jumped out at me in the Aldi carpark)

Just had my rear tyres replaced at 2.00mm with a pair of Bridgestone Turanza 6 ENLITEN and I wish they’d put something (I don’t get to choose Tusker do) which actually has some grip when it’s moist out, I don’t remember the originals having such guff grip, either that or theres been an update to make the traction control less interfering but it’s been rather lively. Just over 15k on the original Bridgestones and 3-3.5mm on the fronts still left.

At 27k the original fronts had 2mm left, the rears were....very illegal....make sure you check the rears - they wear faster than the fronts.

The Goodyear Eagle F1 seem to be grippier so far (apart from some black ice yesterday that nearly had disastrous consequences, still excavating my underwear)

I am at about 34,000 km now and the original boots are getting very close. Still looking at the Yokohama ADVAN Sport V108 EV
