Updates

You only get a recall (e.g. the one you mention) done for free.

However, if you have a problem with the existing software and an update would fix it then you can get that update done under warranty.

I got an infotainment upgrade under warranty because the radio would sometimes get stuck and refuse to respond until the car was turned off.

If you have any problems with the software let them know as there might be an update that can be done under warranty that would fix it.

I understand why the dealers don't just do updates - it will cost them to do so unless they can get MG to pay them for it as a warranty claim.
Personally I did have an issue, but my MG service rep said "listen carefully, do you have issues with the radio getting stuck?" and I said yes, and then that was listed as an issue and became a free upgrade.

To be fair it had only happened to me two or three times and it may indeed have been the service manager who brought it up. I can't remember who mentioned it first.

Mine never comes up automatically, except when I disconnect the cable.....

Not sure where I was posting previously about software updates but I'll follow up here...

Had the service today so got the recall update (SKU077? I'm sure @siteguru will correct me).

The drive back from the dealership was good. I've finally got the 1mph increase in the ACC that I didn't get with previous updates.

Also - I got great efficiency! 5m/kwh, whereas I usually get about 4.5 in Summer.

Not sure if that it because it was downhill from the dealer rather than uphill or some other reason that won't continue beyond today. But I will of course keep an eye on it.

I thought that when certain updates were done that the accumulated totals reset, so the car may have lost all its driving style/history data which affects the miles/kWh calculation.
Yeah I think that happened with our first update. Lost all pre-set radio stations etc.

Not so obviously with the one today.

I recently purchased a a 1 year old MG4 Trophy with 250 miles on the clock and one year service completed.
Software SNAKP168-29958-1300R30.
I contacted my local MG agent and booked in for a software update. I requested only Free updates to be carried without my approval.
4.25 hours later the car was returned. They said the software listed on Recall had been carried out and gave me a list of updates not undertake.
Additional updates not covered by recall would be chargeable - £432 The list of updates not carried out might as well be in another language and the service desk could not elaborate.
The software after the update is the same reference as before.
When I asked what updates they had carried out they replied "as per the recall"
When asked what the updates were they didn't know.
When asked what was different they didn't know.
When asked if I had now gained 1 pedal driving, I was told that feature was not available on the MG4.
When asked what I would gain if I paid for the additional updates (£432)- they didn't know.
Is this the level of service I can expect?
Is the software too complicated even the MG service agent didn't know? what is going on ?
I really like the MG4 but the software and service are lacking.
Am I asking too much?
I believe my mg4 started 2025 fully updated. It's 2nd service is coming up soon and I wonder if it is due any more updates. I have received no messages this year saying any have been released but wonder if that is normal, if so is anyone aware of any new mg4 2025 updates?

Yes. In many cases this what MG service is like. And it is the case all over Europe.

You might get lucky and get a dealer that takes it's job seriously. But even the dealer is limited by MG UK and their concept of customer service. You will find a lot of examples about this in this MG forum.

About updates: as far as I know, one pedal drive is available for the Trophy. Also, ask for the latest LKA update (check forum for details).

OPD is not available for the Phase 1 cars - there is no software update I am aware of that will add it. Phase 2 and onwards cars came with OPD already available. (Except in Australia where they had to patch the software, so I recall).

A 1 year old mg4 in 2025 means it is a 2024 car. That is phase 2, isn't it?

I had to sign for two sets of updates when I got my car serviced recently. One fixed the lka and the other was unspecified but it fixed all the errors I was getting on start up and the infotainment screen boots up much faster.
The car is transformed software wise for me, I can just get in and drive and forget about looking at any settings.
I did report i was having difficulties with these systems when I was booking a service so it looks like MG has these updates pre-approved if anyone reported issues when the car was due a service. I just had to sign for them with no extra charge.
