I took my Trophy for its second service this week, my first visit to an MG dealership for such excitment (I bought it pre-loved so the first service was undertaken in someone else's ownership).

The garage recommended that I might need new rear boots next year, to which my response was "No shit, Sherlock, let's think about that next year". They also recommended some kind of AC disinfection so that I don't catch some dread disease, I'll probably skip that too - AC hasn't killed me yet...

Anyway, the reason for my post; they've provided a video of my car up on a lift and a blokey checking the tyre depth and the brakes (pads & discs). Is this standard? Has anyone else got a "free" video ("free" in that it is part of something that cost just shy of £190) of the underside of their motor? Is there a market for this kind of smut on <ahem!> specialist web sites?

It's standard for most brands in Denmark at least. I've had it for the last 10 years

Ditto for ji end brand service centres inthe UK in my experience. The local garage doesn't do it but then they don't charge £120 plus per hour

Have it for my KIA. Also try the upwell. Got a amber warning on tyre depth of ONLY 5.5mm. Told them to let me know when it was under 2.5mm.

Most service centres over here now have a body cam on the "service technician" to show you what they actually did and any things they found during the service .... I'm guessing to justify the price and in the hope they look to be at least a bit transparent in what they are charging the big $$ for .... so many shonky characters ended up in the trade over here when so many tradesmen who took pride in their work simply walked away and found better paying jobs with less pressure to upsell stuff that really didn't need to be done .....

Just about every automotive service place over here has standing vacancies of 2 or 3 employees that they simply have never been able to fill over the last 5 to 10 yrs ..... some of them simply went to the wall because no one wanted to have their name associated with the reputation those places had won themselves

MG Oxford provides a link to a video of the underside with the tyre tread check.

I guess you don't get to see the underside normally and it shows that they have checked the tyres accurately. Some reassurance they followed all their processes and didn't make it all up.

Okay, it seems to be a standard and has been for a while. I guess that the bloke who did my old cars (and they were old!) didn't bother with this stuff. I've joined the modern world!
