What is the difference between the mg4 (trophy lr) 2023 and 2024?

I watched this video and it mentioned the OPD improvement, along with OTA updates. Does anyone know about either of these?

Over The Air updates have been promised for a long time, but it is generally accepted that we will never get this rolled out on the MG4.

OPD I think was introduced on the phase 2 MG4s that come with rear windscreen wipers and a middle headrest for the back row. But I don’t think we ever had phase 1 in Australia so don’t quote me on that.

Does that mean a 2024 from the start of the year (jan) doesn't have OPD?

That’s possible, I’m not quite sure about when the new cars were introduced, so best is to look at the rear windscreen wipers as they are an easy clue. But someone please correct me if that is not a guarantee for OPD.

I am sort of paying extra for a car with more mileage as I want the OPD feature (and maybe the rear wipers) and I could get a slightly cheaper car with like 15k less miles if I got a 2023.

There are Phase 1 and Phase 2 cars. As mentioned above the Phase 1s lack OPD and lacl the rear wiper.

The Phase 2 cars add these but also only have 7kW AC charging, Phase 1 LR cars came with 11kW. However, few people need more than 7kW AC.
I have seen 2024 jan 24 plates and 2023 june 73 plates with rear wipers, does that mean they have OPD then?

Yes, they should have. It is easy to check through the settings too, see if there is an option to turn it on - after you've pressed the brake pedal to put the car into READY mode.

The thing is I have test driven a 2023 car (I think it was 73 plate) and it had an odp option but it didn't bring the car to a complete stop. It also didn't have the rear wipers.

Are you sure OPD was turned on?, it has to be turned on every time you start the car. With OPD off, it will default to strong regen which will slow the car but not stop it.

yes as I was going through the settings as my dad drove it and it was on, unless it turned off somehow after coming out of the settings

Was it turned on AFTER you pressed the brake pedal to switch the car to READY mode? Some settings cannot be fully enabled until the car is in this mode - I don't have OPD myself so I can't tell you if this is needed or not.

it was enabled mid way through a drive

OPD but no rear wiper? Are you sure? I'm not aware of any MG4 without a rear wiper having OPD capability. 🤷‍♂️

PS - just because one is 73 plate and one is 24 plate doesn't mean they weren't built at roughly the same time ... a 24 plate car was almost certainly built in 2023, a 73 plate one possibly even late 2022. But they both probably have similar build dates.
