Which EV, new or used, would you change your MG for?

I've not heard a bad word said about them.
I heard insurance was high because so many were being stolen due to Hyundai not using all the bits in their encryption keys and the resulting brute force attacks by criminal gangs using the so-called "game-boy" key-fob emulators?

I did look at the MG S5 but it didn't grab me although they would give me £17,500 for my Trophy which is good as WBAC only values it at £12,500.

So with the amount I'd have to add to the trade in against the S5 added to the WBAC insulting value gives me a budget of £26,000 ish for a used EV.

For that I could get a 2024 year old Mercedes EQA+ with 16000 miles for £24,999 which is half price.
Good point, I don't tend to look at the premium brands because they are mad prices new.

However, you do see some used Mercs, Audis and Genesis that with quite reasonable sounding prices, after the huge depreciation.

Presumably they are good quality.

Guess it depends on budget and size, used the Mustang Mach-E is almost reasonable and the Skoda Elroq looks like an interesting proposition. The specs on the Renault EV's also look good and they seem to have some good reviews as well as the one button disable for all annoying driver assistance systems. From BMW there is the iX1 which again used is not too over priced.

For any of the better spec cars the main PITA is the luxury car tax, for which I would be expecting the seller to knock a couple of grand from the selling price to compensate.
Second hand, registered prior to April 1st 2025 there is no luxury/expensive car tax for EVS.

Just done that very thing. I went for a Polestar 2. One month in and all good. Does everything (and more) that the MG does but better. LKA is done properly, ACC much soother, good range, hilarious headlights (pixels). As it has been in production for a good while there are plenty available in the used market too.
The Polestar 2 is one I'm considering. I had the hour and bit test drive and quite liked it. I'd be interested in hearing how you get on with it. Which model did you get, and any option packs? I think I'd opt for the mk2 with 82 kWh battery, and single motor.

A friend has just joined the EV revolution, acquiring an approved-used 3 year old Polestar 2 with 25k miles on the clock. Because it's approved-used it comes with a 2 year warranty (plus the balance of the 8 year battery warranty), and also makes him eligible for a Zaptec EVSE supplied and fitted for £495. (Which exact one I don't know - he doesn't have it yet. He only got the car yesterday). :)

If someone else was going to pay for it, who knows? But as things stand, I'm sticking with the MG4. The only change I might consider is getting the LR rather than the SR. I like the idea of the ER, but then I remember I don't really like the Trophy trim, so I'm sticking with the SE.

Bought from new (MY25, six month build) as couldn't find used examples with leather. LRDM with Performance, Plus and Pilot packs in Space (black). First impression: good, it has a firm ride that's to be expected with big wheels and performance suspension. Nice touches such as a button next to the charge cable to release the plug and waving your foot under the car will open the hatch. Built-in Google Maps gives a SatNav that's streets:) ahead of the MG4 system. Will let you know how it goes.

Welcome to the forum.

Having spent several hours going down various rabbit holes I'm still not sure.

The Mercedes EQA was tempting for all the kit and level of finish but with only a 3 year warranty from new and there being some reports of the motor packing up (£6000 to replace) when it's just out of warranty and the front suspension wearing, it's no longer on the list.

I'm now looking at a used Hyundai IoniQ Ultimate which has the option to extend the warranty to 5 years.

I don't intend to replace the XPower for several years yet, but after looking more closely at some of the suggestions in this thread, my current choice would probably be BYD, I can see them becoming a dominant force in the EV market in the near future.

Hyundai's have a 5 year warranty anyway, or do you mean another 5 years ?

From Hyundai's web page:
Hyundai Promise cars come with a minimum of 24 months Hyundai warranty, that can be upgraded to a 5-years Hyundai warranty (at additional cost, contact your retailer for further information). To be classified as a Hyundai Promise car, the Hyundai car must have less than 60,000 miles on the clock or be no older than 36 months old.

Our MG4 Trophy's finance contract finishes in September and we have the opportunity to give it back and are wondering about a change.
However, we like the way the car handles and soaks up potholes. Plus there is the 360 degree view and free wireless hot-spot and it looks good - no slab front. OK the software has its faults but we grew up with computers and can cope.
Having had a quick look at other possible cars I can't find one with the same features unless it's about £10,000 more.
I'm not so bothered about the MG agent, having suffered at the hands of the local Honda agent.
I'll take account of the recommdations above and keep looking.

The thing is that new EVs are coming out, but they are much more expensive than the MG4.

Plus there are bigger discounts as it isn't a new model any more and SAIC are churning them out.

You can get a pre-registered 25 reg MG4 SE for £17,495 right now on autotrader. £20k for a trophy.

Hard to look past it unless you need something bigger/different for some reason.

EDIT: I just found one Dolphin with the 60kwh battery for £20k, though most are £22k.

Love my Xpower but doing a lot of country miles the pot holes are doing my head in. I’ve seen that Citroen are releasing the new C5 Aircross in the autumn with around 420 mile range and it’s being described as the magic carpet ride so hopefully my back will appreciate it.

We changed our ZS EV Trophy LR for a Renault Scenic in October last year and have been really happy with it, aside from the app being inferior to MG iSmart. It also works reasonably well as a smart device for Octopus Intelligent Go. With the recent price drop and realignment of the range the base long range Scenic has a list price of £37k, with good finance and discount deals available. In my opinion, it's a far superior car to even the MGS5, which I drove recently. It's comfy and has a good range and charging speed along with decent standard spec.

I am really feeling the urge to swap my MG4 for a Scenic at some stage, especially now the new model year has introduced one pedal driving and V2L.
