Will the HS PHEV Trophy 2025 remotely precondition (heat/cool) via the MG iSmart app in the same way as MG pure electric cars?

I have an MG4 now, but I am strongly considering upgrading to the HS Trophy PHEV 2025.
I don't want to miss the remote heating and cooling feature of the MG4 on cold and hot days.

Can the HS PHEV 2025 do the same thing?
If so, does it need to start the petrol engine to run the HVAC, or will it use electricity from the drive battery?
Can it remotely warm the steering wheel? (The MG4 Trophy can't, which is very annoying)

Yes, the 2025 MG HS PHEV has the remote preconditioning, no the engine doesn't need to start as the car is fitted with an electrical heater,

In regards to remotely warm the steering wheel, unfortunately the HS does not have a heated steering wheel so this wouldn't happen, although you can heat the seats!

I work at the MG Dealer in Reading so would be more than happy to help!

If you google the question whether the hs phev trophy 2025 model comes with heated steering wheel. This is what comes back

Are we now only going to trust AI? It's also nice that the "great" AI shows the old PHEV 😉. Don't believe everything you hear – the HS PEHV 2025 does not have a heated steering wheel.

Note it also doesn’t have V2L despite what some sources say.

I have the MG ZS hybrid trophy and should have the function to pre warm etc but the app will just not work despite the iSmart team saying it’s working perfectly well.

I think the ZS will be similar to the HS in terms of the app. The problem is that after a certain amount of time, the car goes into deep sleep mode and can no longer be accessed via the app. You have to wake the car up once with the remote control, then you can preheat/precool it. Unfortunately, MG has come up with a very poor solution. I was able to preheat my Ford Kuga using a timer, but unfortunately MG doesn't offer this feature.

The “deep sleep mode” sounds like a good idea to prevent the 12v battery discharging and preventing starting. However, it appears to me that it happens quite quickly, I generally use the iSmart app every morning, to prevent the car dozing off and to see if the app is reporting -37C. Just to show me, it’s reporting 5C, today, which is correct 🤨.

I have the MG ZS Trophy 2025 and the app does not precondition the car in the same way as a pure electric will. I took my car back to the dealership because mine wouldn’t work but was told it’s because the petrol engine has to be ‘warm’ before it can kick in. Pure electric cars run differently so the app will work. I can locate my car and run the diagnostics via the app but not much else.
I also have an electric steering wheel which I love but can’t prewarm using the app.

As you have a ZS you are right, but the HS, which is what this forum is about, unfortunately doesn’t. But no matter my driving gloves keep my finger toasty.😉.

We appear to have digressed, the original post concerned preheating the battery, and the advantages of using this system. I must admit, that I’m still at a loss regarding the preheating process, provided by the iSmart app.
If there is anyone using this system, or is knowledgeable, pros/cons etc. of using, could they enlighten me please.
Many thanks Noel.

Has anyone managed to get the battery preconditioning on the 2025 HS Phev to work via the i-Smart app?
Every time I try to do this (when the app is connected to the car) I get a 'failed' message on the phone screen. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Unfortunately, it's just as reliable as all communication with the car 😡. Apparently, it only works when the charging cable is connected. Mine is currently charging and I can't even see the EV Management display, let alone preheat the battery. The app and the poor connection to the car are the biggest drawbacks of the car for me so far. Especially now in winter, when you want to preheat the car...

I’ve had the phev trophy for nearly four months and I’ve had no problem at all setting the heater and heated seats to come on before setting off on an icy morning. No problem if the car is plugged in for charging or not and never need to unlock the car to awaken from a deep sleep either to work via the app

I am able to activate the heated seats and the climate control from the app, but I have not been able to precondition the batteries before I set off on a journey on a cold morning - to improve the range/efficiency of the car.
