Window tint removal - Phase 1

Does anyone else with a phase 1 rear passenger window tint find it a tad too dark for visibility - especially at night?

I'm considering removing the rear passenger door tints especially after driving a 25 plate courtesy MG4 which didn't have them - much more visibility and driver friendly in my opinion.

Has anyone removed theirs? Was it problematic?

Isn't it the glass itself that's tinted, therefore not 'removeable' ?

The rear tint has gone from my car's rear screen. Mind you it was a drastic removal method ... Storm Eowyn dislodged some ridge tiles from my porch roof, which subsequently fell onto my car and smashed the rear screen.

When the car was repaired the new screen was clear rather than tinted, as the repairer ordered the part using the VIN rather than my emailed advice. (They had to follow the insurer's process). The rear door windows are still tinted though.

Is yours an SE? If yes and it is a 72 plate then it may well be an early Phase 1 car. (Phase 1 = no rear wiper). The first batch of SE models that arrived in the UK were mis-built in the factory with the same rear screen and windows as the Trophy spec model.

No it's just film - i managed to gently peel back a few mm just to check..

To be honest never had a problem, with Privacy Glass in my X Power, perfectly ok at night. But that's me. Other folk it might.

Yes it's an SE model but 23 plate - no centre rear head rest or rear window wiper - but tinted rear passenger windows.

I wasn't sure if a 23 plate would be like that ... but then again the date of 1st registration can bear no relevance to the build date.

Hardly.. but even though i drive artics for a living it's not ideal reversing blind side into my garden at 2am with 3" to spare... btw.. i've only driven 2500km in the past 4 days - what about you?

Backing in to small spaces in the dark is where I find it most frustrating too.

Reversing into my drive in the dark is the time I too find the tints too dark. I usually drop the rear passenger window to get a better view.

Ahh right, in that case give it a try if you think you'd prefer them un-tinted.

I have a '23 reg SE with tinted rear windows. Must be much older than the registration date!

Mine is registered 25th November 2022 (I think, date I collected it). Build date was 28th August 2022.
