I bought an Ottocast Express Play2video Ultra. It seemed to have good reviews.

I got it to connect and update but it seemed to be very slow and lagged when operating. I could not get it to display the normal CarPlay items.

Reset it back to factory settings and tried again. Same story. I now have a docket to return it and get a refund. Before doing that I thought I would ask if anyone else has had more success.

If not, which similar products work well in the MG4.

I bought this dongle from AliExpress. It's worked great - I've only ever once had to unplug and replug it into the USB A port when the car has struggled to see it.

(I followed the instructions to update the firmware first, set the correct mode, and also set a 30s startup delay so that the car can boot up first before looking for any AA/CP source).

UPDATE

I was sent a Returns Label to send it back. Before I did that, thought I would give it another try.

Hooked it up and went through all the steps again (the fourth time) but this time it worked!!!

So now I have the Ottocast Play2Video Express is now operating. Apparently it would have a bit less lag if my Hotspot was set to 5Ghz, but that is only an option on the next model up (iPhone 12 and above)
