I have seen other post regarding adapters for wireless carplay but could some people that use them maybe give the delay they use, adapter name and mg4 model? I think it would helpful not just for me but also other people if there is something with a list of adapters that has worked for other people.

How do you do this, as mine no longer autostarts after a recent software update to the car?
I think most dongles are accessible by connecting to the wifi network they create. Instructions generally say don’t update with the dongle powered by the car (I assume for fear of the car going to sleep mid update) but accessing the settings shouldn’t be a problem I think.

You connect to the wifi network it creates and then navigate to either 192.168.1.101 or 192.168.50.2 (if these don’t work perhaps googling your dongle’s ip address gives the right one).

This should show you an interface with settings you can change, delay should be one of them.

I use the Quadlock Apple CarPlay dongle in my phase 2 Trophy. It is pretty solid and works well, but not cheap. It’s stuck to the underside of the floating shelf so it’s out of sight.

I like that it has a USB-A pass through port/function so you don’t actually lose the option of charging by cable, leaving the USB-C port available for a thumb drive with more music on it. Although I generally charge my phone wirelessly when I need to.

In terms of dongle though the settings page looks identical to the aliexpress ones, so I think I overpaid a bit for that part, but oh well, these things happen.

Of If I were to buy a replacement I think I’d get the Carlinkit mini, I like how small that is and it gets good feedback online and here on the forum.

I've never been able to access the dongle to set a delay but I achieve this by sitting in the car and waiting for the infotainment screen to power up, then press the brake to get the car READY - this delay seems to work 99% of the time, with AA then becoming available

I got this one from AliExpress. (It was about £12 at the time). I read the leaflet that came with it and:

  • Plugged it into a USB power adaptor, not the car or my PC
  • Connected to the WiFi network created by the device (using my PC, but you could use your phone or tablet instead)
  • Navigated to the IP address per the leaflet
  • Followed the instructions for updating firmware, and setting the relevant Mode
  • Reconnected, went to the same IP address, and updated the settings to configure a 30s start up delay
  • Unplugged the dongle and plugged it into the car
  • Configured the AA settings on my phone to use Wireless AA (it's in the AA developer settings)

Since then I've had no problems with the dongle. (Well, I had an issue on Friday, but that was actually an issue with the car losing the AA connection rather than a problem with the dongle itself. After the car had been locked for 20 minutes - so that the USB port had powered down - it all started working again).

Oh - as per my sig - 2022 MG4 SE SR :)
