MG4 Undertray dip/bulge

The bulge is not "normal" - it should be flat. (If it was normal then every MG4 would be like this, which is not the case). Your dealer is spinning a yarn.

But it shouldn't prevent you driving it - it'll just lead to a "whistle" at higher speeds, and increase the drag coefficient (so potentially reducing range).

Some people wonder if the air being forced into the motor housing area is exacerbating the oil leak issue.

Much Appreciated for the response everyone. I’ve gone back to the dealers with your comments and suggestions, I expect teething issues with any new car model however it seems that the approach used by my local dealer basically say it’s safe and continue but let’s not rectify is a big warning flag to you all. I have just made it clear that I would expect official confirmation info from MG to be supplied direct regarding this & given all the feedback about oil leaks they should maybe inform customers already taken delivery of the car that they need to re-call them if they see oil also as a more pressing issue.. I.e I would never have known about the oil leak had I not been a member of the forum!

It is dealers like this that makes me worried about going with any dealer, this will be my first new car purchase and as such most of these dealers are chasing you with phone calls and emails to get your business, the ones I have spoke with have denied no knowledge of the oil situation which I find odd, but worried once you take delivery then you ll be on your own.

Buying in Cash, is there anyway to get more protection? Could one pay using 2 credit cards by any chance?

I think if you part pay by credit card you get protection. Check it out on Martin Lewis.

Correct. Even if it's only £1 you are covered for the full purchase price.

In my case I decided to pay the £339 deposit on credit card, and the balance will be cash. That way, if anything goes wrong and the dealer becomes problematic then I'll have S75 protection for the whole amount. :)

Be aware the normal upper limit of £30,000 for Section 75 protection, if you're considering a Trophy

Any updates from MG about the undertray?
Is there a fix or is it being ignored?

Someone posted that MG has asked dealerships to report undertray issues so they can get a feel of how widespread the issue is, before deciding on a course of action. Can't find the post to link to at the moment

Which dealer is this you’re dealing with if you don’t mind me asking? I remember you saying you were from Scotland but can’t remember where…

Perhaps we can help with a poll?
I think the more people who check and contact their dealer, the better. Polls are useful for us, but I am not convinced MG are looking at these forums (some dealers definitely are).

MG have said this is not normal and a new undertray will be manufactured but they haven't said when or whether they will fix existing cars. Almost all the dealer's information was correct except that this was normal.

NB: Check your undertray bolts. Several people have reported loose bolts and even some falling out.

Got to have a small impact you'd think. I've done 681 miles at 3.8kwph with a lot of that motorway so seems ok but with a flat bottom maybe it would have been 4!
I will be doing a lot of motorway... what speeds are you doing around on the motorway. What temps are you setting your car geater on. Also what temp is it outside generally when yoy drive... :)
