MG4 Restricted speed - weird

Please tell me your dealer isn't chaplehouse Bolton.
No i won’t name dealer but they have been helpful but it’s been very frustrating to say the least.like I say I just hope it is sorted and nothing happens again.I agree things do go wrong but it’s the time taken and the extra costs involved ie fuel costs n paying for my mg4 cost me around £550 in extra costs

Update…
The dealer emailed me on Friday advising they couldn’t replicate the issue.
Naturally, I didn’t react to this at all well and asked them if they’d viewed the videos and sent them onto MG.
Their reply was “we’ve not sent the videos on yet as MG haven’t denied the issue”
I’ve also told them if they send a mechanic 40 miles up to me I’ll happily recreate the issue in his presence.
They’re evidently doing ‘something’ today as I’m on my third app alert for a power steering problem.

I got the same back from my dealer in regards to lack of power they have done software updates and followed a procedure to check for loss power and all issues mg advised we’re clear.I get my car back this Thursday they are using my car for 2 days to see if the fault re occurs on there commute to work.garage said it was because it wasn’t charged enough it went into turtle mode to conserve energy which is a load of crap as it was at 55% and lost battery percentage fast in cold weather .we will see what happens hope u get it sorted

My car had another drop in power and refused to accelerate last week. It felt like i was towing a very heavy load up hill!
I was on 30% battery and it was +5 degrees outside, so much warmer than the last time it happened to me.
I've also noticed that after a charge to full the car loses almost 10% of its battery over a very slow and easy 9 mile drive home on eco mode with power saving. Odly enough it loses the same amount of charge if i put it sport mode and rag it home!
The rapid discharge seems to slow down after it reaches 90% so i have no idea what this issue is but as i've said before, i think the MG4 is cheap because the batteries are cheap and not very good.

on another note, is anyone else starting to experience creaks and rattles inside their car, because i am!
I've only got 1600 miles on the clock and just about everything creaks now from my seat to the 10 inch display.

What speed did you get?
I get well above what would be considered turtle mode speeds, but also nowhere near what I should get.

I got up to the speed limit, it was just very slow getting there as if it had lost 50% of its power.

mine was very slow at accelerating and lost battery really quickly has your dealer said anything to you about it
It's not been back since it went in before Christmas and had its software updates.

They advised me to stop pre heating the cabin an battery and this made a big difference in range and up until last week it had not done it again so I assumed the issue was fixed. Clearly not.

At a guess I'd say its as if the car thinks the battery is very low and reduces the power, so fingers crossed its a software glitch that will be fixed with an update

Update for those following…
The dealer emailed me to advise they’ve done everything MG have advised and a test drive still couldn’t get the car past 69mph, foot to the floor and a good battery level.
They’ve advised it will drag into next week, which im ok about, but I’ve also stated there has to be a line in the sand somewhere and rejection will have to be discussed soon, I’m not driving a base model 5 indefinitely.

Mine is currently at the dealer getting the update to prevent it locking me in inside and also to see if they can replicate the reluctance to accelerate, which i doubt they will be able to do but hopefully they will pass this information on to MG, and they will create an update to fix the issue because im certain its software related.

It’s good to know my car isn’t the only one MG are scratching their heads over.

These are both SE SR cars right? I had the same issue and a couple of balance charges later ive not seen it again

Seems more to it than that

I have an SE SR and have never experienced what the guys here have explained. 🤷‍♂️

I do charge to 100% (and leave plenty of time for a balance) as a matter of course though.

The different battery chemistry in the SR requires a different BMS - could this be related?

I got my car back last night.was advised when taken in I had 2 fault codes after the lack power.they said they did all checks mg advised all was clear but they updated/reprogrammed the BMS unit I have done 120 miles today cars seems to be back as it was before hopefully what they did resolved it also my KWH recovery rate seem much better than usual today.they also did the locking in error I believe there has been a bulletin sent out in regards to loss of power and a guide for them to follow.my error code was PI72.00 which they followed from mg advice don’t know if this will be the same for you.what PI72.00 means I don’t know but that code relates to loss power somehow

I’d guess this is one of the suggestions MG gave the dealer, along with disconnecting the 12V battery etc (app warning of power steering failure is a dead giveaway for that).
If you’d had the same issue, good luck avoiding it happening again.

I’m being told no error codes, which is part of the problem, the dealer is fumbling around getting suggestions from MG that aren’t doing anything.

Have they checked the float voltage of the pack? To make sure it's not got any duff cells?

As you might unfortunately have a fault pack, and the voltage is collapsing underload

Fair enough - but are you aware that the 5 is the more expensive vehicle? ;-)

I don’t care, it’s horribly old fashioned and I would never consider spending money on one.
It doesn’t even have heated mirrors, which was a pain this morning (no side mirrors at all for my entire journey)
Unless they’re broken, which is entirely possible, even though it’s brand new. 😆
