MG4 Software Update Thread

Hi, I had this issue (see earlier post in this thread). There are now two versions of R33. There is a newer R33 release within the last week(ish) that now replaces the previous. The previous version gave me the error you have, in that I could not get any online services from within the vehicle.
Speak to your dealer to get them to recheck for a later revision of R33. This should cure that issue. It's a known issue within MG apparently, though oddly did not effect every vehicle.

I re-booked in with my dealer, but the earliest appointment will be in two weeks! Really annoying. But I'll make sure they check newest version of the update.
Also I have a wind noise problem due to the seal of the rear quarter, they should fix that as well. They are minor things, but they're still annoying and people pay a lot of money for a new car so I hope they manage to solve these faults once for all.

The current version (R33) solved my issues so I can't really recommend anything, sorry about that.
The fact is that I had no problem before the update! 😅
I got another appointment with the dealer, hopefully they will manage to solve the issue.
Do you know where can I find which software version I have?
 
I find it works better if you a) set the distance marker to 2 bars (tap left on the left joystick) and b) indicate and pull out a few seconds after the vehicle in front has appeared on the driver display. :)
It would help if the vehicle on the drivers display would change colour to Amber,like it does on my Brothers Citroën E-C4
 
Ok, so my Infotainment system is at R30 and has been since I picked the car up in December. I can't say I've noticed any real problems and I didn't need the locking in recall. So, what does R33 offer, apart from a plethora of new screwups?

I remember some people saying various fixes to make radio more reliable and squash a ton of bugs.

Edit: bluetooth stability improvements I recall someone mentioning.

So this keeps becoming frustrating and annoying to a point of pissing off the heck out me. Right so got this crap of a car called MG4 SE. Got it from MG Leeds Luscombe(why not from Swindon ? that's another story ). Straight away from the dealer after 3 days, I book a visit to MG Swindon where I live to adjust the headlights the low beam was too low. Problem sorted. Now software - I use apple car play and android auto (apple mostly) but guess what it keeps disconnecting. The radio stopped working and If I put it on 26 degrees is ok but after a while blows cold. Resetting the head unit by pressing 10 sec the home button a few times, but no change. Now I return to the useless Eden Motor MG Swindon and I ask for a check. They kept my car outside for a whole day not even bothering to check, got a call later that I have to rebook which I did but I am not gonna go. Meanwhile, I checked here MG Recall Checker
and surprise my shed is due for a recall. The guys from service didn't bother to tell me that there is a recall. The bottom line this car might be the cheapest on market but also the worst. Fool me I installed a charging point at my home that dumb I am. So the software is a piece of junk and I think those Chinese guys don't care too much about their cars. Very unhappy with the car like extremely unhappy the guys from service totally unprepared for the job- being an EV. This is the moment when I want to turn back time a few weeks.

If it's less than 30 days since your purchased the car, and you purchased it from new, it may be worth rejecting the car if you're not happy with it.

As you said, they fixed the headlights. In terms of the failure to do updates to fix radio and other entertainment reliability bugs, plus any recalls, it could be that the update servers in China were down so they couldn't do them on the day, hence the request to rebook. If this happened it was out of the dealer's control. A revisit should cure that. The blower temperature is a known issue.

Unfortunately, many EVs are like this at the moment with software bugs that require fixes. MG's system for updates is problematic but so are some others. VWs have had huge issues. MG do need to do better.

As you say MG is the cheapest, so you cannot expect premium service or quality. If you want a trouble free experience you'll need to either stick to tried and trusted tech, hope for better with a different make, spend a lot more, or buy a car that has been out for 2 years or more and thoroughly debugged. By buying an EV, you are effectively buying at the bleeding edge into an immature technology. There will be issues and "but I spent £25k-£30k!" doesn't change that.

I agree to an extent but MG's are still over £26k to the best part of £33k now which is a fair outlay of cash, granted less than other EVs.
I do agree with your sentence that it's the cheapest so you shouldn't expect a premium service I do however think you should expect a level of competence and communication from your dealer/MG and we know in a lot of cases this is sadly lacking.
This car has been on the road from June and in the UK a few months after that and still persistent software niggles exist, and these differ from car to car so no real explanation..

A software fix for one issue should not really impact and cause issues with another part of the car, if it has been fully tested before release.
The software updates haven't even been properly communicated to dealers with some not even aware they exist until told by members, embarrassing for dealers that customers actually know more than them.

Aging MG need to get on top of this how much time does it really take to make sure every cars lane assist behaves safely and works as it should, as it would appear to do on a lot of cars.

Just put my car details into the MG Recall Checker and hey presto it says Recall Due : Yes. Anyone know whose responsibility is it to alert me that a recall is required? Might be to solve the "Help get me out of this locked car" which fortunately I haven't experienced!

Sorry, no clues. I jumped from R10 so not familiar with R13.
If you can summarises the differences from R10, we can work out what is R13 and what is R16.

not many are prepared for ev's locally even mercedes /renault dealer have crap service and after sales . but im sure my local dealer will keep cars up to date as the sales manager is the best guy you would want as your friend to keep you happy with the car after you get it and my one is that .
