Sent all photos over to finance company just waiting to hear back.when I got in it this morning I also got the key not recognised fault again it just gets worse and worse this car then this afternoon get a call regarding another recall lol

I will probably at some point change my oil as I don't believe it should last a lifetime. Probably looking at around 20k which for me will be around 16 months of ownership. Hopefully it will still be in good condition and at a reasonable level. Do you think MG will be doing a check on condition and possibly level at 1st service due to the leak issue ?
I dont think any car in the history of ever gets gearbox or axle oil checked / changed at 20k

I does sound silly but it is just possible that MG do add a gearbox check to the service to protect themselves from future failures/claims.

When you read macadoodles post about the state of the oil he drained out of his it doesn't bode well for what that would actually look like at 20000 miles

Yep, the car was a substantial cash outlay for me, and I certainly feel a lot better now I don't have a crap load of metallic particles suspended in the gear oil.
I'm sure it was totally normal break in 'silt' as it was incredibly fine but I'm also sure fresh oil would be a better lubricant for the future.
Spoiling the ship for a ha'p'orth o tar springs to mind

These kinds of gearboxes are not new technology and the MG4 is hardly a high-stress application, plus MG have used similar on the MG5 which has no problems I have seen, so I think the gearboxes are going to be just fine. It is easy to imagine problems but better to wait for evidence of a problem first, or risk spending time and energy on the imaginary.

It's the question over the oil level that is the big unknown in this case though, the MG 5 doesn't leak oil everywhere

As I said, evidence first, or we get lost in speculation on speculation. Where are all the gearbox failures? If they start happening, we will know there's a problem, although it will all be covered by warranty anyway.

Agree completely but it is the great unknown, the long term impact if the box is being run with less, it could be fine, it could impact it in other ways, stopping short of failure. Nobody knows.

I think the only thing that could be said is if it's true the levels have been dropped that MG are taking a gamble.

Ok well I might have posted this before I know I have looked at it.
The oil type and capacity is the same on all the vehicles in question.
Oil type on all models is
Shell E-Fluids E6 iX (SL2808)
Capacity
MG4. 0.9 litres.
MG5, MK1, 0.9 litres
MG5, MK 2, 0.9 litres
So might well appear it’s the same unit in use across the brand on there EVs

What is different about the MG 4 that causes it to leak???
