MG4 X-Power waiting area

It looks like interesting times for modders as I reckon all that new suspension gear will be an easy swap out for the regular models. I'd be particularly interested in the stiffer roll bars as it made a great difference changing the rear one on my Mazda 3
Having driven the MG4 Trophy I personally think they have the balance between performance and comfort pretty spot on, stiffening up the ride would make it a poorer car for me.

My point of view obviously comes from a non everyday use perspective but haven driven them a couple of times (demo cars) I definitely drove it like it wasn't mine and thought the setup felt pretty spot on as I said.

Yeah changing the shocks struts and springs can give a harsher but more planted feel, depends on your preference. Switching out the roll bar though is more about altering the balance between the front and rear axles, it helps reduce body roll & understeer. I've always prefer the back to step out rather than the car ploughing forwards

Will it be obvious to see the difference of an xpower to any other MG4 if they are the same colour?

What would be the first thing you would notice about the xpower?

I like the idea 💡 that the car does not shout too loudly about its higher performance in the standard colour TBH.
Its a bit of a sleeper !.
It’s less of a target 🎯 for the pond life car jackers then.
None of the usual four tail pipes that are common place on fossil performance cars these days 🤣.

I’m still not ruling out standard wheels with aero covers :) might result in cheaper tyres? (I’ve not looked) and should absorb a little more of the road.

I’m not fussed about fancier alloys at the sake of ride quality. Function over form for me. Also it’d add to the sleeper point then. Only distinguishable by the combination of two tone roof and rear wiper I believe?

Just got round to reading the top gear review, great in a straight line not to great in the corners, a bit dull to drive and definitely not a hot hatch.

Mixed bag of a review

Most of them echo a similar sentiment TBH. Budget must cut somewhere.
I’m keen for a test drive to see if it’s one of the things that’d bug me or if I’m not that discerning of a driver. 🤷🏼‍♂️

They don't want to alienate their Golf GTi / Focus ST driving readership.

If we are being honest there are a fair few petrol hot hatches out there that will out handle and out brake it.
It's just physics they are far lighter cars, I believe that was more the point they were making, as much as I agree they have to keep the petrol heads onside that buy their magazine

The comment section in the Xpower vs Audi video were surprisingly favourable!

If I remember correctly from the HK reviews of the Xpower, handling and braking were all good , only thing they complained about was the tyres which were more for economy?

Well, depending on how popular it is, it’s a matter of time before some tuning companies offering handling packages with lowered suspensions and better tyres?

I think we will see more manufacturers doing this as it's now much much easier to create a quick car. Throw 2 big motors in there and you have a fast 0-60.

Making it handle nicely is a whole different battle.
So pretty much what the Americans have been doing for years, creating muscle cars that go crazy fast in straight lines but are horrendous on tarmac like our rural b roads

Have you got that as a macro yet? 🤣

Goodwood FoS has cancelled Saturday's events for the first time in its history, due to extreme weather warnings (high winds)
This means we won't see the EX4 go up the hill today.

The more I'm reading the reviews about this car the less I'm feeling it 🧐
It's not even an option here in Italy yet so I'm saved the dilemma but in my short experience so far with my car I don't feel let down by performance....
If it goes fast, it has to be able to go round corners and stop more than a few times without cooking the brakes...

Maybe it's just me...?

I'm with you, it's not doing it for me. For me a performance car is brakes, tyres, handling, and lastly power. If you don't have the first three the power is at best a traffic light drag race feature, or worst, dangerous.
