Range decrease due to cold weather [merged thread]

I'm averaging (almost year round - winter, spring, summer) about 3 mpkWh in my SE SR.

My last car was a diesel Insignia (1.6) ... one time, when I'd been getting very good mpg, after a refill I saw a range of 1000 miles on the GOM. I always got 500+ between refills.

I take the m/kWh on the 4 with a pinch of salt. According to mine I normally get around 4.5m/kWh on my daily trips with no AC or heat and 2.9 with heater or AC on.

I don't honestly think the heater or aircon drops the mileage that badly. I've certainly never noticed such a thing. I do note that the GOM drops by 5% of your current range when you switch it on. No doubt that is a nominal figure, but I don't think it's that far out.

When I did my 80 mph dash up the M6 I was getting 2-2.5 miles/kwh without the heating or aircon on (it was a warm night, after dark, no need). I dread to think where that would have gone if I'd decided I wanted it on!

At one point it was up over 20

After I'd finished my dash up the M6/M74 burning electricity like there was no tomorrow, I got to the Wells of Tweed above Moffat with a GOM range of, I think, 30 miles. Home is further away than 30 miles - more like 45 miles. I wasn't worried. From there till Broughton (about 20 miles) the GOM stayed at 29-30 miles, all the way. I actually saw it flip up from 29 to 30 once or twice. I got home on 9% charge with the GOM showing 18 miles range left.

It might be quite fun to go back up to the Wells of Tweed, reset the counter, and see what the miles/kwh is looking like by Broughton.

Hi all.
Ive had my Mg4 long range trophy for 3 months, its advertised at 281 miles withnits 64kw battery.
When fully charged it used to show 276 miles of range, the last few charges it is only showing around 196 to 210 miles.

What has gone wrong?, its only 3 months old?, could it be an issue with the battery?, someone said it could need updating?.

Any help appreciated.

Your range didn't drop.
The estimate of your range dropped.

As already mentioned, it's an estimate based on your driving style and other factors.
Turn on the AC to hot, during cold weather, and drive at the motorway speedlimit, and it'll drop a hell of a lot more.
Turn AC off, drive during warm weather, and drive gently, and it'll be more.

The total range estimate is basically irrelevant, unless you're worried about running out mid-journey. Check your usage per kwh or per 100km/miles, and it will give a more accurate picture of the range.

You post where you think it's suits best, if it needs to go somewhere else a mod will shift it.

I can beat that. Got 20 mls/kwh but that was within 0.9mile, almost all downhill, then took a screenshot. Sent to wife who was at the time beating me on high score for mls/kwh. She soon sussed out what was going on.

So disappointed, just completed a 170 mile round trip. Started with 100% now down to 20%. In summer I would get a range close to 300 not the 200 miles of today. Is this normal?

You will see a 25-35% loss of range in the winter.
