MGS5 safety software fault - recall level problem? (reverse after hard stop; merged)

If it's an emergency stop, the person behind could be getting very close anyway, if their car is going to hit you, the power back will make the impact all the harder. If you keep your foot on the brake after you stop, does it still roll back, when you take your foot off?

    New EV - advice please

My brief thought, is that you are still in the ICE mindset, we fill up the tank when it gets low. With an EV slow charge rate, it often makes sense to top up when the power is available. I think there is a slight advantage to the battery, to keep it around mid to 3/4 charge. Only do full charge...

    MG4 solar charging

We have a big advantage here in aus, plenty of sunshine. We can charge our car purely on sunshine, even in the Winter. I'll shortly be able to automatically only charge when there's excess solar, once the EVSE people get the software working. We have 9.6kW panels and a 5kW inverter, so I can...

    Regenerative Braking: beginners explanation, please

I can only speak for our MG4 OPD is OPD, it's separately selected in the infotainment screen under "driving" If the car doesn't come to a complete stop when you take your foot off, it's not OPD. And yes brake lights come on once deceleration hits a preset level, similar I guess to when an ICE...

I have my moments and enjoy them but rarely keep it up for long. Being first at the lights, is often a temptation I can't resist. Especially where there's a merging lane just after the lights. There's a good excuse for rapid acceleration then, to get out of the way.

    Regenerative Braking: beginners explanation, please

Makes no diff, same amount of regen in all 3 cases. You need little or no regen for derusting brakes, it's been said many times before. no regen in reverse, at 100% SoC or in Neutral. If you're brave you can also use accelerator and brake pedals together, (I haven't tried this yet.). Also hard...

    Regenerative Braking: beginners explanation, please

This is only true, if you have little control over your right foot! The only reason you'd be using more regen is if you lift your foot off more than needed. If you slow to the necessary speed, and no more, the above argument is meaningless. OK, so I guess some people are just used to taking...

    charging Cable

So, still a puzzle as to what caused it to keep dropping out? Something somewhere was sensing an anomaly. CHATGPT, says it was a 3phase imbalance, common with older EVSEs and cheaper ones not configured for single phase. Maybe it's just making that up? The box has always worked fine in the...

MG5 ABRP reading wrong battery level

  49. decrep

    charging Cable

I had an interesting case last week, my MG4 wouldn't work on a 3phase destination wall box. It started but dropped out soon after. So was that because the wall box had no idea how to process a "please just treat this car as single phase", signal, thought it had a faulty unbalanced load and cutout?

have you got the OBD app on your phone? Does that say the same battery level as the dashboard or ABRP?
  51. decrep

    Miles/kWh

When a trip first starts, the initial acceleration takes a lot of energy, it's a heavy car! So the first mls/kWh is high. Normal running uses much less energy, so the mls/kWh will slowly drop.

    Regenerative Braking: beginners explanation, please

I think you've misunderstood. Regen levels, don't really affect the regen/friction braking ratio. Regen levels only adjust, the accelerator/brake pedal action. at level 1 lifting off the go pedal, gives a regen level equivalent to ICE engine braking, then transfers regen request to the brake...

Connecting a V2L car to a house as a battery.

Yes that does sound easy, but in my case (I just had a look to make sure,) there's already 2 batteries with the BMS mounted directly on top. The batteries are designed to be stack-able, to get to the port for a 3rd battery would mean remounting the BMS slightly above where it is leaving a gap...

Connecting a V2L car to a house as a battery.

Don't ask me why, instinctively I don't like it, just subjective feeling. They have a very nice professional connection between battery and inverter, I'd have to break into that some how. It would be immediately obvious. The installer warned me, touching anything would void their warranty.
  66. decrep

Connecting a V2L car to a house as a battery.

If I did something like that it would void the warranty on my system. I also don't like the inverter and power supply connected together, I'd be using a change over switch.
