Which bi-directional DC charger did you get? I'm interested in getting one once we finally move.

    MG4 in Australia

Nope I have a Trophy 64. The trip left me with about 30% remaining, so I’m sure 250km would have been well within reach. Of course this was a relatively flat journey, so perhaps it wouldn’t have worked so well on @T1 Terry ‘s trip. I did mention to the missus during the trip how the 64 really...

    MG4 in Australia

I just did a 225 km one way run in the MG4, and back up two days later, with nowhere near using up a full battery each way, and doing 110 km/h most of that trip. So surely the MG4 would easily do 250 kms. Either way, compared to my full ICE 308 that returned roughly 600 km on a 50 litre tank, I...

    Ottocast with MG4

This dude shows how to get into the settings for an Ottocast Mini 3 (according to google, I didn’t watch the whole video) It alluded to having a 5 or a 15 second delay on start up, I would definitely go for the 15, most people report a 30 second delay works most reliably on the MG4.

    Emergency Exit

I suspect you’d need power to unlock the doors if they have been locked, they do this automatically once surpassing 15 km/h, I not sure if you can turn this off in the settings. But if the car is unlocked I don’t see why you couldn’t open the door. Always worth keeping an emergency hammer in...

    MG4 in Australia

I think those recent “range extender” EVs are even worse, that’s just a hybrid where the ICE doesn’t drive the wheels. They’ve just strapped a generator to the car really. I don’t see the appeal in hybrids, you get the worst from both worlds. You’re hauling around a battery pack (with the...

    MG4 in Australia

For those in WA (and perhaps others who would like to have them) I can highly recommend the EV tags from Just Add Noise. https://justaddnoise.com.au/products/5x-2-packs-of-ev-sticker-tags-10-tags-total-australian-made-bulk-pack They come with adhesive backing but also a pop rivet. The only...

A series of unfortunate events: alarm, then strange yellow warning light

I only ever see that light when I finish a DC charge, then when I tap the brake the light goes off. It’s very strange this light would come on whilst driving as it indicates (as far as I can tell) that the drive battery has disconnected. Which would leave you without drive power I would assume...

    Heating not working

Or maybe they simply just don't care. Could be a slack technician feeding a load of BS to the front desk so they don't have to do the jobs they don't like doing. Either way it reflects badly on the service centre for sure.

Slightly pathetic data limitation - 1GB, MG4 Trophy

If the data allowance is inadequate for standard use, wouldn’t most trophy owners complain about these issues? It strongly suggests that the OP is doing something out of the ordinary for the data to not last the month I would say.
  11. ReintjeWA

    What’s this?

Yeah I would say it’s the cover for where you attached the towing eye if you were to need it.
  12. ReintjeWA

    Heating not working

I sometimes wonder if this is caused by MG/SAIC being so in control of seemingly anything the dealership wants to do. It could be a clash of (corporate) cultures. Considering Chinese manufacturers used to steal designs all the time perhaps they are worried that others may steal their software in...

    %, miles or both?

My longest regular(ish) drive takes 40% for a round trip, so in that case I just look at percentage,. On an unfamiliar route I check ABRP and check consumption figures mostly I think. I never really trust the GOM too much.
  14. ReintjeWA

    Which charging cable to buy?

I have both the trickle charger and a type 2 cable in the frunk. If I didn't have a frunk though I probably wouldn't bother lugging the type 2 around. I got a 22 kw three phase capable cable, that way it'll work for any future cars too.

    Steering wheel vibrations

A vibration due to an imbalance in the tyres would come on at a certain speed but fade again when accelerating, so if it just gets stronger and stronger it won’t be fixed by balancing. I’m pretty sure there is a setting for vibration feedback (on/off) in, I think, the MG Pilot setting page. But...

    MG4 in Australia

I might be the one living under a rock, but the missus just got her rego bill and on the envelope it says all hybrid and ev cars in WA will need to display the blue EV tags (similar to some other states) from January 2026. Not sure how else I would’ve found out seeing as my rego won’t come...

MG4 Spotted! : Was it you?

Finally got my first wave! From a fellow tango no less, happy days!

    Miles/kWh

Yes that’s pretty good, I do drive shall we say “spirited”. I don’t really mind the figures, I have the range I need and can charge pretty much whenever I need, so it all works out.
  20. ReintjeWA

    Miles/kWh

Wow that’s real good range then, what’s your consumption like? Mines always about 19 or 20 kWh / 100km. A short drive might show 15/16 but long term tracking is definitely 19+
  21. ReintjeWA

    Miles/kWh

Yeah I’ve see a consistent 350km range over winter doing a fair bit of highway driving. Now with the weather heating up and doing some more city driving I’ve crept back up to 400km range.

Traction control problems after software update.

Does snow mode do anything to help? Although I’d suspect snow mode will mostly just limit torque

    Lifting point for changing wheels

    All season tyre choices

All manufacturers will be asking a computer what the best combo thread pattern is, and the computer will spit out the same answer for all of them. And I guess R&D will eventually converge to the best pattern anyway.

Frunk Gas Struts - Which Way Up?

I wouldn’t worry about taking them out for service, there is no expectation for the car to return to service the way it got delivered. Especially if you own the car. Beyond that, @siteguru is correct, taking them out means you’ll lose the retaining nut inside the bonnet.
  27. ReintjeWA

    4K Dashcam

Yeah I recollect a thread showing this before and some people looked for a RHD version, but I don’t think anybody ever found one.

    Sat Nav-voice volume

This setting can be changed in the "normal" settings pages as well, but the swipe down menu is a good short cut.

    CarPlay Wireless Dongle

Dongles need a delayed start up, but that won’t fix all the issues you’ve described. Songs only paying smoothly when downloaded would indicate an issue with your phone’s connection/speed though, not necessarily the dongle. Same suspicion could be had with regards to bad gps signals. I had a...

MG4 ER - Time for new tyres

To start with; The Turanza T005 comes with less thread from the factory (only 6mm instead of the more standard 8). I couldn't find clear proof that the T006 does the same, but it is likely as apparently they don't differ too much. Then there’s the chance you get charged more on the retail side...

MG4 ER - Time for new tyres

Don’t waste money on OEM like for like replacements, I’ll have a peek at what’s out there nowadays and give you some advice as if I still sold tyres, but first I’m watching F1 haha!
  32. ReintjeWA

    Miles/kWh

If your “intelligent” battery heating is on, consumption will be higher at the start of every journey. If you do short journeys heating the battery isn’t worth it, you’ll spend more energy heating it than you lose by not heating it.
  33. ReintjeWA

Is my heating power consumption correct?

Yeah I've seen figures that would extrapolate to either a 80 kWh battery pack, or on other occasions a 40 kWh battery pack. It's Trophy so both would be a little off.
  34. ReintjeWA

    Cordless air compressor

I got one of those in the car, but that's more because of the booster pack function it also has (in case I ever come to a dead 12v battery). There have been some reports of the MG compressor being cheap and practically single use, so figured I might as well upgrade that in one go.

    Wish list of MG4 improvements

Back when I worked at the tyre shop, we had to reverse into some tight places and up to the showroom window (one dumbo backed into the showroom once), I always preferred manoeuvring using the mirrors, most consistent across all makes and models.

Wireless CarPlay adapters - HELP !

I had a Quadlock that kept dropping the signal, so I switched to a Carlinkit 5.0 Mini, haven't had a single issue since. Connects quickly and reliably, and stays connected. Longest the car has been sitting idle was a few weeks ago when I was sick (so didn't go to work), the car sat for 4 days...
  37. ReintjeWA

    The better buy?

Depends on whether you prefer the extra kit on the Trophy I guess. I’m not familiar with 24 vs 73 plate, but I think some 24 plates may be a phase 1 (no middle headrest or rear wiper) and some of those come with their specific issues, so I would always prefer a phase 2 in that case.
  38. ReintjeWA

    MG4 Frunk now available

They probably just don’t want to cover an item that wears from being used. I doubt service or mot care, a lot of cars have gas struts for the bonnet.
  39. ReintjeWA

    At last!

I feel like you can have them adjusted for use when standing still, or adjusted for use when driving, but not both at the same time. It’s a strange design for sure!

    AirCon antibac cleanse/ac regas

"cooling of the high voltage battery" sounds like marketing BS, I've only ever heard people speak about losing range because the battery packs are cold (and heating themselves). I doubt it ever gets hot enough in Manchester for the pack to be cooled down. And even if it needed it, isn't that...

    MG4 model advice please

Probably the range, I’ve only ever had one butt clenching drive which was at the very start of my EV ownership so my planning wasn’t that great, I’ve never had range anxiety since though. The reason I wouldn’t trade in now is that I might as well drive this car for a few years, and then most...

    MG4 model advice please

If I was better informed when buying my MG4 I would've probably gone for the ER, but I do also have to admit that I'm never short on range in my LR Trophy.... The missus suggested I enquire about trading in my LR for an ER, but I don't think I'll bother now to be honest.

    New MG4 facelift version?

I read that they'll call it the MG4 Urban when it comes to us Down Under, so it would track if they do that across several markets. Although they have different spec level names everywhere, so maybe not...
