Slightly pathetic data limitation - 1GB, MG4 Trophy

The car hasn't got google maps, it's a system with the map data stored in the car, so no data would be used. Weather would use a tiny amount of data as would traffic data. So I can't see where 1GB would go.

I included my phone just as a comparison of data use.
So how does it know about the traffic conditions ahead then ?

Not a bonus. I paid more money for the Trophy car to have data and live services.

Per advertised and brochure.
I have never seen it mentioned on a brochure the limit you were allowed, do you have a copy?

I read recently that they were only free for 3 years and the next subscription is built into the servicing cost, not sure how true that is

According to MG's EU data declaration the cars basic systems use 1MB of data per operating hour

And did you find out the data limit before your purchased? Because if it was key to my purchase, I would have asked a lot of questions before buying. Or did you assume it was limit-free?

In Maltese, "gemgem" isn't a standard word but a term used for people who grumble or complain, especially workers who were paid by the British but disliked their tasks, meaning someone who is always whining or reluctant, like "jagħli għax jisbaħ" (boiling because it's dawn). The word for a literal precious stone or jewel is different, but "gemgem" carries a specific negative connotation of continuous grumbling or complaining in older Maltese slang.

1MB (not mb) per hour is 744MB per month, if used 24 hours a day 7 days a week, in a 31 day month. (Which is very highly unlikely). So in theory nobody should run out of a 1GB data allowance with normal usage. If people are running out then either they're using the connection for things other than normal car usage, or the reported hourly data usage is wrong.

**** me you have taken being a fan boy to another level today, to actually post what a member from Glasgow's forum name means in Maltese , because it suits your default narrative is another level of whataboutery!!

Id be interested to know if there is any connection to Malta at all🤣

A more relevant term to Glasgow for you to ponder is a Glasgow kiss, all kinds of seasons greetings with that one 😁

I collected my vehicle as new on November 26th. Not realising there was even internet in the car until I saw the 4G symbol so started investigating it in the way home, I found the weather widget updated, and then discovered Amazon music which i logged in to. On the 15th December I emailed the dealer as the widget stopped working and i couldn't log in to Amazon any longer. The dealer confirmed there's a 1Gb limit which resets on the 1st and my car had eaten it in 2 weeks. Not great. I hadn't used much Amazon music or hotspot to the car. I'll use my phone data but it's pretty crap only giving enough data for half a month's light use. Not a deal breaker because i didn't even know it was there in the first place, but it's a half arsed gesture to only give that much.

But how is free data a drawback at all? Let alone considerations of deal breaking.
It isn't.... It's not a deal breaker at all. As I already said, I wasn't even aware of the data ability of the car when i bought it, but the implementation of such a small limit is tantamount to a token gesture, making it feel a bit pointless. I too tether my data from my phone and hotspot the car, it's not an issue. Why the anger?!

I don't note in any anger in him, from experience instead of ever getting angry @tsedge will just put you on ignore if he can't be arsed anymore 😉

No anger here, peace to all!

It was merely that you seemed to frame this as a criticism of MG, when others indicated they had not hit the limits and many other makers don't include any free data. Indeed, subscriptions after 3 years are becoming very common.

I see this as a bonus feature. Yes, a higher limit
might be better for some, but still it is a good thing.

Now I may have misunderstood you. If I did, I apologise.
