MG4 - Airplane mode / no data connection

A few days ago I noticed that the MG iSMART App can't find my MG4. Yesterday I checked the car and it shows an airplane in the top right corner. Is there a setting that can cause this in the infotainment system? I also tried a forced reboot of the system (pushing the home button 30 sec.). No change.

I never had problems with the data connection as long as I had the car (summer this year).
 
Have you been flying with your MG4 lately, and maybe left it on airplane mode accidentally?

Jokes aside, I don't recall ever seeing the airplane symbol, but I wouldn't expect that to be the symbol MG uses to indicate a loss of signal..

Funny....but how would you call that?

BTW: This is from the car. You can test this, by declining the privacy settings.

Left-field thinking ... does it suggest that the Privacy etc. tick boxes have lost their settings, so you'd need to go through and tick them again? (Maybe untick then tick).
Yeah...it was the privacy settings. The signal bar is back again.

Now...I have another problem:

No data can be received (it seems). The clock is not synced and weather data can't be received.

I also receive an error when I try to access my MG account in the user section on the car. Of course the connection to the iSMART App is also not available.

Similar problems have been reported in another thread. I think I'll wait a few days and maybe try to call MG. Looks like a backend issue.
 
MG iSmart support says it's all okay from their side. Seems like an issue with the car.
 
Have you used up the included data? I believe it is limited to 1Gb per month. If you use the car as a Wifi hotspot it is easy to exhaust this.
That's a good question. I don't use the 4G connection of the car. Everything goes over CarPlay. So...there shouldn't be anything draining the data on the car.

Anyways...I have disabled BT/WLAN of the car. I will wait until November and check again.

Furthermore, I wonder why the iSMART-Support couldn't check this. Maybe they can't, because this would be a mobile provider issue.

"It is recommended that you visit the authorized workshop to have the telematics box refresh."

So...to the dealer....

Today it started working again (after weeks)...

So...I can only think of two possible reasons it stopped working. Some issues in the backend of the cell service or I exceeded somehow (don't know how) the data limit.

Will observe further...
 
My brand new Extended range has dropped it's internet connection today too. It signed me out of amazon music and had the aeroplane symbol in the top right too. Interestingly, I saw the data icon was disabled so I turned it on and the 4g with full bars appeared but still no connection. Too confirm this I turned the wifi hotspot on and connected to it but my phone said the network had no internet connection. I'm wondering if the dealer used the data this month before I collected it as I've only streamed about an hour of music through amazon music!?

MG iSMART-Support tell me this for every fault I send them, approximately 5-10 a week as I've started emailing them EVERY time the iSMART app fails to work.

The app is not that…great. It got a lot better over the last years (we have also an older MG ZS EV). There are still some issues. The most annoying thing is, that the app can’t reach the car, when it’s in deep sleep. This is bad, when you want to pre heat the cabin during winter.
My guess is, that they will never fix this. Maybe with a future redesign of the app.
