V2L Cars to be in demand?

I agree, I’m going for the official version, and I’m currently considering 3.6kw 9 panels solar and 10kw battery from Effective Energy
Thanks for the name drop Kin. 👍

just been on their site and requested a home survey. Hopefully try to get the system (with battery storage) installed early next year. yay!

I’ll do more than a name drop! They quoted me £12,500 for 10panels (Sharp), 4kw with 2 batteries (5.12kw each)

Edit: they requoted me with 10panels above and I’ve accepted it, there’ll be another surveyor coming round again to double check everything is ok before going ahead in around 12 weeks time.

I found this comment on a YouTube video of someone in the Uk testing MG ZS EV

Here

Seems to shed some light on the ‘earth’ issue, would like to see it validated.

“PhoneVideos • 5 mo ago
You dont need an earth on supplies like this
as its an "isolated" supply meaning you'll only
ever get a shock by directly touching the live
and the neutral at the same time, the only
reason we have earth is because our mains
system neutral is tied to earth at regular
intervals and back at the power stations.”

Great idea, this is something I’ve considering today with news of possible energy cuts in the winter,
I know someone who has ordered a MG4 specifically for this reason,
I ordered the long range zs for its battery. Since that order was moved to the mg4, it’s ended up being used as a car, to good to leave as a home battery. £492 per kwh. Not a bad way to get energy storage out of China.

Does anyone know the length of the MG V2L (£268.48) cable?
I too was wondering that same thing so I Emailed MG and they came back yesterday with this.

Well thanks again @kin had them round last week for a quote. Was wondering, but thanks to the idiot Lizzy and her cronies, and now that we are staring down the barrel of significant energy uplifts in less than six months, I have decided to pay the deposit and lock them in to the price quoted. I can only imagine it will go up by the time of my planned installation (April 2023 time).

Excellent! What are you getting?

5.2 KWh system with 5KWh inverter and 5.2 KWh Battery. A little more than your quote I think….total £10850.

Could do without spending that!! Gonna take most of next years Sh*tz and Giggles money up, but sure it will be worth it for future proofing. I hope!

In the real life scenario……. Spent the same with the above system plus an MG4 for much the cost of the same high end Kia Niro. So that is how I am selling it to myself 🤣

Did the surveyor recommended this set up for you?
I’d rather have larger battery for winter time as we barely have enough daylight to take advantage of the solar panels , just my 2ps

Yes … total of ten panels on the roof. And one x 5.2 (or maybe 5.4) KWh battery. I forget. Think I will be paying the deposit next week and wait till I have some more coin ready for an April installation.

10 panels and you get 5.2kw? That’s 520watts per panel.
Mine is also 10 panels but only 4kw, the surveyor said 400 watts is the biggest they do!

Hmmm…

Well your quote was less than mine. But this is interesting. Will go through my proposal again tomorrow..make sure i am not talking boll@x 👍 will get back to you to confirm 👍

EDIT - plus ….. I got quoted £3000 per battery, but I think you were quoted £2200??

It might be different panels? The first battery does cost more £3000 and then any additional battery is £2200.

I paid £9000 for 5.3kwh ( 13x410w)panels with enphase IQ7+ micro inverters with 5.2 kW battery system.

Micro inverters benefit from 25 years warranty where normal inverter have 10 years only so I don't have to worry for panels and inverter for next 25 years.

we have a home battery and pannels (self installed for maximum ROI), they are great, but if you didn't have the money for a home battery there is a good argument with an ev to just have the pannels and put the spare energy into the ev during the day. Then when cash permits, add a home battery later. We put a big system in this summer, 13kwh batterie and 8kw of pannels. Approx cost was £7,000. A pro installer will chuck 5k in for profit and warranty.
ive decided to become a pro installer as it only took two days and its better money than being a software engineer.

Yeh Harry you probably have but you won’t regret it that I can assure you I haven’t got a home battery just 4KW of Solar on the roof but I will have a 51kw battery today sat on the drive when I pick up the wife’s mg4 along with a V2L cable, that I have ordered from my dealer that I can use to power a few things up to 2.5kw,watch this space I have plans a foot, the car can be charged from the panels and be used later in the house. Also this chap below might be able to help

Hi shaunuk I agree with what you have written and maybe you and Harry17 should have a little chat he could be your first customer for your new venture.
I have just above told him about having a battery 51kw without a home battery has he has an MG4 which has V2L capabilities only about 2.5kw to use but every little helps so best of luck with your venture if you decide to have a go, there is a massive demand everywhere at the present time and I’m sure there will be for some years to come.

12-14 K is about the right price for solar (upto 3.68kw) + battery (upto 7KW) - in this current climate (UK), its looking like 3-5 years payback?

Similar situation here too when picking which MG4 to go for.
go for a Trophy on its own....
or an SE SR and £7k spare from our available funds for some sort of Energy system.

So we decided to go for the SE SR and a Home Battery Solution.
We're looking at just going battery only with no Solar as we have East/West Roof alignment , so not optimum for the extra cost.

We're going for 10kW battery storage and an AC coupler to load up the battery when its on the cheap Octopus Go tariff, then use the charge for peak to save money.
currently still paying 5p kW until May next year and 13.9p Peak.
So Next May was going to be a real rude awakening for us.
I know Go will increase next year when ours runs out, but still going to be hell of a lot cheaper than without the Storage.
Also there is talk of being rewarded for only using off peak electricity with reductions to your bills etc.
Which this will help with.
Just need to find someone to fit it all now before the installation costs skyrocket too with demand.
Currently looking at £5995 for GivEnergy system with 9.5kw battery installed including VAT too.
But they cant fit it until April next year.
Have another one that's quoted who are a little more expensive (£1000 ish) but can fit in next 2-3 weeks.
Just waiting to hear back, then we'll get cracking.
Only downside with Battery only is you have to pay the VAT
If bought with Solar panels you don't.
Bloody Government !!
Still a good saving over the crazy costs coming though.

with regard to only pulling 2.4 kw from the car, the AC couplers for home storage only start at 3kw and go up in value and price from there on, so not a million miles away with V2L.

I just don't want to put a charge/drain cycle on my car battery every day to try save money and end up reducing the cars range quickly.
It will be interesting to see if the car logs charges and discharges anywhere in the system.
If MG are offering 7 Years on the battery based on charge cycles probably, but its being hammered for V2L every day too.
I'm sure they'll be able to tell somewhere and probably reduce the battery cover with it.

Just a note for people with Octopus Go you can't sign up to Octopus outgoing to export energy to grid for 7.5p per kw. You are able only to sign up to standard export tariff which is just over 4p per kw.

I realised that after I sign up with octopus go
