V2L Cars to be in demand?

So let me just make sure of this .If Ii use a v2L cable in the event of a blackout ( I'm not "doomongering" but bear with me) I could use up to 2.4 kw of electrical equipment . Then when the power came back on I wouldn't have to worry as the equipment would still be plugged into the car. So nothing would blow and nothing has the potential to be damaged.

It doesn’t mention the MG4 in the spec, is it confirmed that it is compatible?
I’ve just contacted them and they confirm it is suitable for the MG4,
the will be updating the web page soon,
very helpful and feel confident with their product, they also explained cables for the MG4 are custom made and delivery is currently 1-3 days from receipt of order.
also, you can have a choice of length and one or two gang,

You plug in the V2L cable into your charging port / socket of the car, then plug your chosen electrical appliance(s) into the V2L load cable from the car.
You can power a number of items as long as ALL of items DO NOT exceed the recommend limit of 2.4 Kilowatts recommend by MG ( although some people have slightly exceeded this limit for a short time ).
You then power up the car into the READY state and go into the info unit and select the discharge function in the settings.
You can set a lowest percentage figure that you do not want your HV battery to drop below, when powering these devices.
When the power is restored, you just unplug your appliances and return them into the original power outlets, they came from in the house.

Right so is the official MG one just a sort of short plug with no cable, that would be no good really.

What really we need is something that plugs in with a long cable that you can put through your window garage or whatever as it does rain a lot. You need to be able to plug your three pin UK plug into it in a dry location dont you.

So maybe that website is the best option?
I have just jumped onto the MG site and they appear to changed the design of the original once piece adaptor !.
It DID originally look a little bit like this Hyundai / Kia unit.

But now it is extremely like the EV Cables unit with built in extension lead and a RCD double socket installed.
Strangely enough, it is shown on the ZS EV page, but it does state it is suitable for the MG 4 also, priced at £268.48.

My guess would be, that these are now being produced for MG by a third party supplier in the UK maybe, looking at the IP65 weather proof socket outlet type used.
These will be produced at a set length I guess .......... ?.
You can choose the length of cable you require on the EV Cables unit.
I just went for a single socket and short cable.
If I need to run power into the house, I will use a suitable extension I already have.
Hope this helps answer your questions (y)

That makes sense given our "unique" BS1363 plug design and inclement weather.
A quick look on-line and I have found a brand new single plug ( gun ) Type 2, with 2 metres of cable attached for just under £80.
And a RCD protected IP65 rated socket, for £25 from Screwfix.
Purchase the suitable rated resistor for a couple of quid, then and a bit of time and knowledge and your sorted for just over £100.
Same thing as the MG accessory at £268.48 ???.

There are still possible issues relating to the Earthing because of the possible Earth bonding of the pipework. You need to take specialist advice for your particular circumstances. But it should be easier to resolve.
Sorry it’s me again, I’m back with another combi boiler question!
Someone said if the grid came back on while you had the boiler plugged in, it could short circuit and caused problems, but if I switch off the main switch in consumer unit, then it should be ok even if the grid came back on, am I right?

There are rumours about rolling blackouts, but from what I’ve heard, it’ll be around 3 hours at a time during peak times(4pm - 7pm), obviously it’s not going to happen in an affluent areas😉

No. You need to ensure that the Earth is islanded as well.

Without the product liability. 🤔

How will the RCD work?

That’s not what I mean, I was implying the Torys will be looking after their voters. 😂
So rolling power cuts will be based up who you voted for?

1. How do they know who you voted for?
2. What if people in the same house voted for different parties?
3. How are they turning off specific houses in a street?

it’s highly unlikely that

A. The blackouts will occur

and

B. That the blackouts will only happen to non Tory voters.

The comments about keeping power for Tory votes only is clearly ridiculous so let's not be political on a non political forum.

Anyway.... I decided to order a V2L cable from MG official. It is £100 more than than EVcables site and considerably more than a cheap one off ebay but I know it will work and not put my 32k car in harms way. Plus it is IP rated is the word so can be used I guess in light rain, ev cable sit looks cheap and has a basic plug socket, MG official is a double IP rated socket.

I just think if blackout do occur and I have two cars that can power my house, I know I will regret not getting one when I have a family to look after for the sake of a couple of hundred pounds. It could also save some neighbors food from going off... a price I'm willing to pay.

In the near future I'd love to get solar and battery storage for the house but for now this will do.

I agree, I’m going for the official version, and I’m currently considering 3.6kw 9 panels solar and 10kw battery from Effective Energy

I don’t understand where they can get an earth from on the V2L setup. So I would not be using one until I can get confirmation there is an earth there.
