V2G to be approved in Australia 2025

I have just had approval for my new solar & battery installation. The installation company rang to say that essential Energy had charged $331.00 for the approval which will be added to my bill & they sent me the invoice. I never had any charge for the 2 previous solar installations. Basically the approval is a standard letter with a set of terms and conditions.

All they did is check their own records to determine if the system would be OK & specified a 5kW export limit. Also I have to install a smoke alarm where the battery is being installed. It is in a colorbond steel shed with a concrete floor and steel doors. No timber or flammable stuff at all other than things I put in there. Plus it is over 20 metres from the house so who will hear it.

They also wanted bollards to be installed in case I run my car in to it. There is a steel wall between the car garage & the shed where the battery is going so how stupid is that?

It is just clipping the ticket for extra revenue for no benefit to anyone. This has definitely made me more determined than ever to eventually go off grid & tell them to stick their supply charge where it hurts.

I just switched to Globird's Zero Hero plan.

It has a $2.035/day supply fee (we have controlled load so often a bit higher than for those without CL).

11AM - 2PM being free energy, the other tariffs don't matter.

There is a bonus $1/day if no imports 6-8 PM (< 0.06 kWh) which we do easily with the battery, plus they have bonus FIT for exports in that same window. We get 15 c/kWh and can export up to 10 kWh if we have sufficient battery capacity to spare, which we will on any day we don't need ducted aircon in the evening/overnight.

Yesterday was first full day of the plan with my battery automation running, ended up with 79c credit on the day, including covering the daily supply fee.

I think we had that too. We had an Essential Energy inspection audit as well - I suspect they are doing it to cover the costs for these compliance checks. Not sure what proportion of systems they are inspecting.
