MG4 Range

Whilst there does appear to be some really low range figures listed on here, it does sometimes seem like people are obsessed with a range that probably wasn't achievable in the fist place (fake WLTP). If you have come from petrol or diesel, then mile for mile it has got to be better on electric. My worst case scenario calculations are that electric will cost me no more than £2.00 per day on my commute. Diesel currently costs me £8.50 per day. Regardless what I get per charge, I can still equate it to per day.

I’m currently restricted to 73mph, so no need for my test track
... I must admit - I never really paid attention to the range as I currently have very cheap overnight electricity - but have just done the numbers, the lowest in my LFP basic MG4 was 129 miles at 100% - so yes in the winter its pretty bad for the MG4 - which is similar to the 77%, 95 miles - I think I'll forget a towbar then (I do know the MG4 has a 500kg limit  , nevertheless), given:-

I got similarly low numbers on a long range trip (thus 65mph) when the temperature stayed before 0°. Kept above freezing I've generally got at least 3mpwh and I'm hopefully - from a small sample size - of getting over 4 when the temperature is near/over 10°.

So yesterday after did a journey to visit the wife’s brother a trip we do almost weekly and got a very nice surprise with the MG4 around 10 miles of the journey are motorway M6 and probably 6/7 of them are roadworks so 50 mph limit but this as been the case or getting on for 2 years now I have look before and normally manage around 3-3.2 mpkh very similar speed weather temps etc yesterday nice to see 4.8mpkh so what has changed the thing I can see is the car had its update for the door locking you in issue done last Thursday can’t see any other reason I sure hope it stays like this.

The return journey in torrential rain return 4.2mpkh only a short trip I know but one we do often don’t know what has changed but it’s better yesterday than ever as the software update got anything to do with it? don’t know and can’t see why it would is it a one off hope not see what happens next time I do the same run
Les.

Edit edit Friday 10/03/2023
Same journey more or less in very similar conditions and speeds, temp around 6 degrees now but this morning quite a bit of snow around so much colder but now around 6 as the sun is now out.
Now 12:30 So from a very cold start and after pre warming the car for 5/7 minutes heater off for the drive and sunny look here

5.3 MPKH that will do nicely thank you.

There's clearly a lot wrong with your car, you are better off without it.

When it comes to range, I don’t think what I’m getting is too unusual.
Someone worked out my range is equivalent to 129 miles at 100%, and others have said that’s all they’re getting too.
The display steadfastly sticks at 2 miles per KWh, never deviates.

That's unusual though, most people are not getting less than 2.5mpkWh, so could be a wider problem but you seem to have it worse than most.

It's early days but I've not seen under 3mpkWh yet with my LR Trophy, giving me at least 180 mile range.

2 miles per kWh is basically 102 miles with an SR. That is probably the lowest I've seen on here

My average mpkWh since I got mine is 2.71, so an average range of 137 miles. Low was 1.76 and high was 3.76. (All calculated values in a spreadsheet, not whatever the car may have shown).

As temperature increases the value increases - that's what my spreadsheet indicates (though that's using memory - I haven't recorded temperatures).

Ok so yours does look very poor indeed even as you admit you drive it quite hard can I ask just a couple of question
What mode and Regen where you using to give these low figures.
Are you doing a fair amount of hill climbing in the area you are driving in day to day
And has you car been give the latest up to date software could you please post a picture of what software is in the car.
The reason I ask the last question is my wife’s SE SR ( I think you have the Trophy LR is that correct? ) was not that good on range but yesterday after the software update last week it does appear to have improved see my post above

SE SR
Latest software allegedly.
Normal mode and high regen.
TBH I think high regen is bad for range.
I notice if I’m driving at a set speed (say 40mph) switching from the preset high regen to adaptive makes the car ‘leap’ a bit, like something that was dragging it back has been lifted.
I like adaptive and I think it would improve efficiency, but too late for experiments now.
