Very poor range in Trophy LR

Just done the commute, in Normal mode, high regen achieved 3.1miles/kwh trip was 18.1 miles, left with 133 range 57%, returned with 48% 103 miles on the range is this normal if so I will just have to get used to it, maybe this car performance is better in summer as I got the car in winter maybe is not that good in winter/cold weather
Almost all EVs have poorer range in the winter, unless they have a heat pump for HVAC and are garage stored overnight. The figures seem better than your original post and in fairness to the car, after only 1414 miles it's still getting used to your driving style, HVAC requirements, weather and road conditions. Did you pre-heat the cabin and run the HVAC for your journey? I find that for short journeys I only need the heated seat & steering wheel on unless the windscreen starts to mist up and then a quick blast of air.

I have given up on monitoring it all. The main difference I am experiencing is the fantastic drive on the country roads and my poor resistance to using the blistering acceleration from standstill, its got me hooked. Both are not great for economy  hey ho.

Mine's the same, I put it down to a very inefficient heater. Although all my journeys are short, the MG4 is not as good as the ZS I had or SWMBO's MG5 in Winter, but better in Summer.
Reviews suggest the Kona is a very efficient EV and the manufacturer's ranges quoted are for the useable amount of HV battery whereas the MGs quote range for the whole battery.

That's better than I get most of the time at the moment (same battery but twin motor).

I'm sure it willl improve over the warmer months ahead👍.... but Tesla and the Korean cars do seem to be more efficient in comparision tests.

OK some Maths...

GoM range decreased by 30 miles.
18.1 mile driven at 3.1miles/kWh = 5.84kWh used.
The Battery percentage decreased from 57 to48% so 9% used.
9% of 61.7kWh (the usable battery) is 5.53kWh.

Given that the difference between 5.53 and 5.84kWh is well within "close enough to be the same" I would suggest that the GoM range is suspect and the battery % and miles/kWh are reasonably accurate.

I'd suggest taking the car to your dealer to be checked but I think they will say it is within tolerance. Personally I'd ignore the range figure and look at the battery % and miles/kWh.

57% at the start with a 133 range showing suggests a total range of 233 miles (100/57 x 133)

I think most people agree the current Winter range in a Trophy here in the UK is around 190-200 miles.. The 3.1 mls/kwh obtained by stephen85 suggests this too (3.1 x 61.7 useable battery size =191 miles total range).

So yes the GOM is a bit suspect by starting with too high a mileage and probably why it decreased by 30 miles over an 18 mile trip.... but how old is the car ? It sounds like it's pretty new so the GoM has'nt got much history to go on yet.

Personally I would'nt bother going to the dealer over the GoM just yet on a newish car as I reckon it will be more accurate next trip after a long charge from a lowish battery %. Mine has'nt given me a range of more than 200 miles at 100% for the last few months.

Me looking at the GOM after I've just charged the car.........
spock you dont say GIF

Hi all,

New to the MG4, had a Kona EV for 3 years. I have a Trophy Long Range 64 KWH and since owing this car I am constantly charging it. I only had to charge my Kona once a week and got about 245 miles range without issue.

I did 180 miles last week. To achieve this range I needed to charge 3 times. If this keeps up I will need to return this car as it’s not doing anywhere near the range I was told or expected. My car is either defective or the range is awful.

Can anyone help me? Am I doing something wrong? I drive the car no differently to my Kona, normal speed, school runs etc. It’s got to the stage I’m considering buying an ICE car as I don’t trust I could go for a day trip and make it home again, which is sad.

My car currently is doing 2.3 miles/kwh, my Kona was doing 4 miles/kwh. I have tried eco, normal, snow, all, range never really changes. Can anyone help?
Hi, I'm very new to owning an MG and an EV. I've only done 300 miles and I'm getting 3.9 miles per kWh.
Once I'm used to the different driving style, I'm expecting to get 4+.
I think there's something wrong with yours!!
