VIBRATION ISSUE - hot off the press!

Depending on what it is, MG will need to produce in sufficient numbers and ship to the various countries.
Presumably preference being given to factory builds.

Oh I don't know M8!

If MG want any of us to return, as MG Car Buying Customer's in the future, then they had better pull their fingers out of wherever they had been hiding them, when they were bloody road testing and signing off the X Power first time around!

ARE YOU LISTENING MG UK??

SAIC AUTOMOTIVE??

WO LING HO?? (Test driver)

Changeorg have a petition started to request MG to fix the issue of the vibration issue for the MG4 Xpower.

The more noise around the issue, the better likelihood of a quicker resolution.

I have just bought a new MG4 Xpower and will likely end up rejecting the car back to the dealer for a full refund, as the car is not fit for purpose in its current state.

If only for a while. 🙂👍

You could organise a ‘ Meet of the xPowers’ with someone with a more recent build (I think in France it was stated cars built after October last year are not affected) to see if you can spot any obvious difference.

Nope.

I don't mind meeting X Power owners.

But it won't be in France.

🤣(Mickey Flanagan)🤣

My Best Mates picking up an X Power today and I'm meeting him tomorrow for Breakfast and a Blast.

4 months old and he's paid £28k for it.

Talk about depreciation!

But good for him obviously.

I do expect that car to have vibes, but on the other hand it might not, if some early adopters reports are anything to go by.

How many jubilee clips are you up now and how's it going with those ?
I have used three, but have now started fine tuning one of them to get it where it makes the least vibration. I just move a few mm each day. At a point now where i can sit from 100kmh to 110kmh and it well be completely gone for maybe a few mins, then comes back very slightly and goes away again. Its going in and out not on speed or acceleration, but on its relation to the other drive shaft. So i go on a slight corner or change lanes, this can be enough to bring the vibration back.

The left drive shaft on mine is the main cause, the right far less, so i dont have a clip on that side yet. I am just about ready to start tuning that side. However, i dont expect it to completely go.

I still believe balance and poor precision of the shafts are the cause. Ive had cheap knock off drive shafts in my subaru, and i found a number of forums where others had same issue, got the mech to put new OEMs in, and we made a bet, if it fixes he pays the difference. And so he did :)

The precision of the shaft length is key , the shaft can be perfectly balanced and you will still get vibes when putting down the power. (not the sentence you want to walk in on )

What i have found, eco mode and cruise yield the least vibrations. So the front motor engagement enhances vibrations big time. However some times you can be in sport and experience no vibes even on the power, but rarely.

I am also slightly open to this being a combination of shafts, engine mounts, balance of front motor gear internals.

I have noticed driving around, this car feeds vibrations from the road back into the chassis in a weird way, combo of stiffer springs and roll bars ?

I have been tempted to try 225/50r18s, giving a higher sidewall. Also these crap fake Bridgestones are probably only having the same contact patch as a 225 or 215, they are very round and run a high psi. And in the wet, i step the back out all the time, fun but annoying. Oh and have a go on the brakes in the wet, absolute rubbish. Dropping pressure helps but alarms do my head in.

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you're getting closer to a solution👍. I totally agree with your findings of how it can come and go. I find mine can be OK and then just a slight uphill incline can set it off again. I've also found that mine seems to have improved over time - I'm now past 3750 miles and sometimes I forget all about it but it is still there in the background and will come back for a while. Perhaps the tyres have evened out and "self balanced" slightly which would suggest a combination of things like you say.

My MG4 Xpower the dealer is taking it back now, as rejecting it due to it rattling my teeth out on the motorway just over 60mph.

I have phoned round others dealers to get a price on the extended long range version and they all seem to be aware of the Xpower issue. One of the dealers thinks the fix will be a software update to fix the Xpower, as currently the two motors are not working together. I found over 60mph you get the vibrations through the steering wheel and chassis, so if this is the case with the two motors not working together, then they are probably not working together at any speed, but it becomes noticeable at a constant speed over 60mph and especially on an uphill gradient @ 75mph it’s the worst.

I went back to the dealer and asked to take their demo version onto the motorway and it was not as bad as my version, but was still present. Their version had done over 5000 miles and the sales person said it was worse when it was new, but got less noticeable with more miles on the car, but never as bad as my version.

I wish the UK had pulled the car from sale like other countries, until it was fixed for Motorway speeds, but typical for the UK that was not the case. I had friends and work colleagues looking at the MG4 also and after my experience they are no longer looking at it as an option. I have said it’s a great car, but will have to try again once I have my 2nd one. It’s a shame MG let the Xpower go into production with this fault.

In the long run getting the extended range version for myself is probably the best option, especially after watching this YouTube video on battery health which shows how to prolong the life of a battery by only charging to around 50%/60% each day (if possible).

I can see why the 2nd hand EV market resale values are so low, you just don’t know how the battery has been looked after by the previous owner.

The X power i just bought ( waiting on delivery ) is a ex demo with over 5000km on it and it has a very slight vibration ..

I got the yeah still havent done the recall on it from the sales man ..

funny was in there the other day to see how it was progressing when i asked again i got a pause in the convo before yeah we will do that at the same time ..

As im getting the front windows tinted and it looks terrible with black privacy glass on the rear and basically clear windows on the driver and passenger fronts ..

Which i get the impression is salesman BS but ohh well !!

I can deal with it but i will be asking MG Aus for some answers to when its going to be fixed ..

Its a real shame that they bring out this beast of a car and it scares people away with not having the issues fixed and fixed fast ..

Then the question is what direction is the brand looking at??

Cyberster due out soon with the big boy one pushing 400kw though dual motor AWD..`

Other models in the works with a semi bad reputation the X power and Mg4 are giving them are they going to sell?

Not sure people will bother with MG ..

People are finicky give them a great solid reliable car ( issues are fine if they a addressed quickly ) and people will come back / continue to buy your brand ..

Sell sh.t or drag your feet on fixing big issues and people will go to the competition..

And that competition is growing VERY FAST !!

That new Xiaomi Su7 has got me interested after the lease on my X power is finished..
