    Visiting France

I went around Brittany and Pays de Loire last year. Almost everywhere took Electric Juice card, with a surprising number being free. Also used an Ionity on the way back to Caen as it was early and convenient, but you should be with with your Octopus card. Only thing I would say is to take a...

    Do I need a type 2 cable?

I survived about eight months without one. Have a tethered charger at home and used the tethered rapid chargers on the few times I charged on the road. Caved and bought one in the end as I was going to France on holiday and was (rightly) worried about needing a charging cable. Have used a few...

My Android Auto problem solved ?

Not sure. It was definitely a software update to Android 12 that killed AA on my machine.

My Android Auto problem solved ?

Pretty much the same. I had OK Android Auto on my Oneplus, but after an update it stopped working completely. And it’s not just an MG thing. My MX5 is really bad for almost all Android phones (my wife’s Samsung works on the MG but not the Mazda), but iPhone was so simple I didn’t even have to...

Had my MG5 a week already

Glad you’re enjoying it. As someone who has had a car for a year and 10,000 miles, the only other advice I would give is: If you keep it at 60, you’ll get a lot better range than driving at 70 or 80. If you have a heavy right foot, then prepare to shell out for a set of front tyres after a...

Roll on Friday afternoon pick up time

Hope you enjoy your new car. Had mine a year now and honestly, part ex-ing by V70 for this was one of the best decisions I ever made.

    Octopus Electric Universe

There's a few advantages to using Electric Universe or similar: It's slightly cheaper for some tariffs - you get 5% off Ionity's standard rate, for example. Some places take a hefty deposit if you pay with a debit card and refund you several days later. You don't get that with Electric...

Poll on owning & using a Type 2 "fast" charge cable

Yeah, I probably should have added away from home. I'm obviously having a special one today.

Poll on owning & using a Type 2 "fast" charge cable

Didn't own one until I went on holiday to France. There were loads of Type 2 chargers, but not many CCS. Other than that, I think I've charged once in the UK since January, and that was a CCS at a motorway service station.

    Octopus Electric Universe

Yep, it’s very good. Went on a holiday to Brittany and the Loire, and found pretty much every charging point accepted Electric Juice/Universe. Can really recommend if going abroad.

Bit of reassurance for the MG5

I’d probably say that’s slight hogwash. The materials are soft touch and quite nice, but they won’t age well. You would probably look at the unpleasant hard plastics in older MGs if you want durability. But I don’t want to dump on the id3. It’s still a good car for the price point. You see a...

Bit of reassurance for the MG5

My neighbour has an id3. I have an MG5. I like both and would be happy with either TBH, but they are different. The VW has a nicer ride and is a bit more dynamic. It also has nicer tech, which is probably more of a thing for you, Tweed. On the downside, it's a lot more expensive and there is a...

MG5 vs Skoda Enyaq - three in the back

I have to say, the Enyaq is a lovely car and I had three Skodas in a row before my current MG, all of which were faultless. But I know others on here have had problems, and the price difference is huge. Had the MG5 for a year now - just the basic spec short-range one, but it's so relaxing...

The one really irritating thing about the MG5...

Oh yes. Did the first one once. Was fortunately only a couple of miles, but was still silly.

Apps and Charge Cards - which do you recommend?

Just to echo this, I went around Western France and used the Electric Juice app and card almost entirely. It was easy to use, and in Brittany and Loire I found that a lot of the chargers were free. The only time I didn’t was a 3AM drive up to Caen on the Autoroute when I stopped and used an...

    Home charging your new MG4

The tethered vs untethered thing will be entirely your choice, and there are advantages and disadvantages for both. I went for tethered simply because I’m lazy and didn’t want to faff around digging a type 2 cable out of my boot before plugging in. But it is a bit unsightly, and my neighbour’s...

The one really irritating thing about the MG5...

Had my MG5 for about a year now. Really happy, but there are a couple of things that make me scream: The radio coming on at startup whether you like or not. The screen having a five second delay before telling you that you put your lights on dipped/main beam. Android Auto having a flap since...

Take care out there! This from "The Register"

Not entirely true. Cyclists tend to be excluded in most cases because speed limits are defined in the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, which only applies to motor vehicles. However, there is an equivalent to dangerous driving called "furious cycling" which can apply in most cases of excess...

Take care out there! This from "The Register"

Agree. It's not as though there aren't quite a few of us car drivers who seem ignorant of speed limit signs.

This can only mean one thing!

My neighbour had the unlooping going as his house and the house next-door had this problem. Was quite an issue getting organised, but the actual job only took a couple of days, mostly related to digging the trenches.
