Should I replace my PR-FL excite with a new MG5 (probably SE)??

Thank you all for your various comments and advice, but, having previously considered just upgrading my 5 for a new one, I have actually just signed up for an MG4 Trophy, having been in the dealership today! I looked carefully at all the options, and it seems to me sensible to change to the 4...

Should I replace my PR-FL excite with a new MG5 (probably SE)??

Thank you all for your comments particularly about the Tesla issue. Since my 5 is the "bog standard original" SR are there any factors that I should be considering in a newer model such as bigger battery/longer range, better lights and general all-round improvements that are compelling, or...

Should I replace my PR-FL excite with a new MG5 (probably SE)??

My pre-facelift MG5 Excite SR is just coming up to 3 years old and my dealer is about to try to persuade me to change. The question is - should I? Can anyone tell me, succinctly, what are the benefits of the latest 5 over the original? I am particularly interested to know whether it can take...

    A Simple Question......

Aha... Getting somewhere I think. "mg5 pre face-lift is dumb" - this is what I suspected, so the next step is to look into the app and see if I can make it work. If that succeeds then I will pursue OVO regarding the cheap rate window. Your reply was very helpful and encouraging. Thank you.

    A Simple Question......

Thank you - I know that the PodPoint charger is capable of scheduled charging, the question is whether the car is capable of it.........

    A Simple Question......

PodPoint Solo 7kW. The manual that came with it says "If your EV supports scheduled charging, then just plug it in as soon as you park and your car will only charge at the programmed time." Hence my question, does the car support scheduled charging?

    A Simple Question......

I have a 21 plate pre facelift MG5 Excite. Does anyone know whether it supports scheduled charging as I am contemplating looking for a cheap overnight tariff....... My dealer doesn't seem to know (there's a surprise!!!!) Thanks

    Key battery warning

Don't ignore it. I had the same warning on my pre-facelift SR also shortly after a service (obviously it is not checked at a service), and the dealership said that if the key battery does goes flat the car loses some of its software configurations which will require resetting. I couldn't be...

    100% to zero (well almost) - 250 mile range test MG5 Excite LR (pre-FL - 2021)

I too have an original SR Excite. When I charge to 100% I get a GOM reading of about 218, but I regularly get actual total range of over 250 miles. Invariably if I add the distance actually driven since the charge to the GOM at any point they always creep up, which I hope shows that I am driving...

MFG rapid chargers and MG5 pre facelift

I too have a pre-facelift 5 and have used MFG chargers successfully a couple of times. No apps, no fuss, just use your credit card. I hope all goes well for you at Catford.

    Evyve Charge Points

Hi everybody, I have not come across Evyve chargers before. I see that they accept contactless payment which is what I need. Does anyone have experience of using them? Are they reliable? I will probably want to try the one situated at Hillfield Farm Solihull in the near future. Failing that I...

MG5 original 2021 spec and PodPoint Solo Charger - overnight timed charging

That looks hopeful.. However....... I have been investigating and it would appear that my setup is not compatible. My energy supplier is OVO, and they are offering a very good reduced rate, but it appears to work with only a couple of chargers, neither of which are PodPoint. It aso requires my...

MG5 original 2021 spec and PodPoint Solo Charger - overnight timed charging

Hi All I suspect that this enquiry has already been answered somewhere, but I am blowed if I can find the answer! I have a 21-plate MG5 SR and a PodPoint Solo home charger. Until very recently I have not had a suitable mobile phone on which to run the PodPoint app, so I have until now just...

Don’t you just love the guessometer?

An interesting discussion.... When I bought the car new 2 years ago I decided I would keep charging records as there was a lot of talk at the time about unreliable GOM readings, and I was interested to what the reality was. If the GOM "learns" from previous driving habits than my car must be a...

The Ultimate MG5 "Real World" Energy Consumption Thread

I balance charged my 5 (to 100% of course) 13 days ago and have since driven 177 miles, just pottering about on the Isle of Wight. SOC is now 37%, That works out at 281 miles total range for a full battery. I think that's not bad for standard range 5 with a WLTP figure of 214 miles!! Good...

    Interior light mg5 non facelift

I put a reply to a similar thread somewhere but can't now find it. I bought a £10 cycle light from Halfords that normally attaches to the handlebars with a rubber ring. I used this to attach it to one of the grab handles. It works a treat, and can be easily slipped off for recharging.

    Regen Advice

Ditto - but then 90% of my driving is local, semi-urban so lots of relatively low-speed stop start journeys. On the rare occasions I do a longer (mainland) trip I also leave it on Eco Kers 3, but I do notice that the overall consumption goes up a bit (ie slightly lower overall range) compared to...
