Octopus will supply and fit a Zappi for £999 (untethered) / £1049 (tethered) - anyone charging significantly more than that is pushing it a bit unless the install is complex/non-standard.
The retrofit requirement is only for rapid (50kW+) units.
Any new installs over 8kW will need to comply
Legislation is currently in draft though, isn’t law yet.
I bought one from Paul Rigby MG in Longbridge for that price in September 2020, a load of other dealers were running the same offer and it had been running for a few months prior.
Not long after, Vic Young in South Shields had a load of pre-registered ones for the £20,495 I mentioned.
Only if the car isn’t as described - there’s a section on the website to enter any damage and it changes the valuation accordingly.
Yes, they do pick up on everything, but if you declare it rather than hoping they won’t notice or it’s too minor then they’ll give you an accurate price before...
They are. How much more than that were you expecting given they could be bought for £21,995 brand new for most of 2020 - and £20,495 for a pre-reg for a while, too.
I don’t understand the hate for range extenders - it’s a perfectly viable way to reduce emissions. Used correctly it should very rarely need to be used on petrol.
I guess they could’ve just stuck with their diesel vans that Polar used before BP acquired them
Look for anything above 50kW - there aren’t loads but they are being rolled out. You can use any output charger, car will take what it can even from a 350kW unit.
You can’t just buy one of those and rig it up, you’ll need to have 3 phase power in the first place and then no doubt get permission from the DNO to connect it.
I don’t think it’s financially viable for most people
It’s fairly straightforward on most tethered chargers as I understand it - usually just screw terminals. Obviously if you’re unsure, an electrician would be the best person for the job.
Adaptors/converters aren’t a great idea.
One of the most common mistakes I see new EV drivers making is the assumption that a rapid AC charger can charge their car at the 22 or 43kW shown on the unit - your charging rate on AC is limited by the car’s onboard AC-DC converter, all of MG’s current models AC charge at a maximum of 6.6kW...
