Adaptive Cruise Control and regenerative braking question

Not an issue with brake pads. Very rarely need to use brakes as KERS will slow to a near crawl. Advise to use heavy braking occasionally to remove any corrosion from discs. Lack of regen on ACC is annoying and is present on MG3 but unfortunately not on ZS.

Don't worry about that, it's really a non-issue. I got second hand 2022 ZS Throphy and it's great. ACC cannot be updated to use regenerative breaking but, really, how often will you use it and where? I wouldn't worry about brake pads either...

Just to reiterate, nothing is breaking with ACC. Brakes are applied electronically with no regeneration but nothing is broken or even breaking.

it really depends on how and where the car is used - for @Juh , with Paris traffic, he'll be lucky to use ACC once a year ?
My drive is 80-90% urban and 10-20% fast so not much use for ACC . yes I would like regen braking on ACC because in my mind, that would give me so much extra range... In reality? maybe 1 mile extra on 100 miles drive...

I have driven 4k in my car since I picked it up.
Daily drive to work is 35 mins which consists of about 20 minutes on a very straight flat motorway and the rest is A & B roads. Full regeneration is used on the smaller roads.
Soon as I'm on the motorway I turn on the ACC and turn the KERS down to one.
Only once in 4000 miles have I seen the battery percentage go up. It went up by 1% when I was coming to a roundabout after about 500mtr coast on KERS 1 before stopping.

I've also stopped using ECO mode and just keep on Normal.

I think the only difference between ECO and Normal is how the accelerator react, it's slightly longer to press and a bit harder on the pedal (or it might be my imagination)... I might be wrong and if anyone knows, please share...

A colleague at work said almost the same, he said that it shifts the point down a little on the accelerator pedal. Basically to get to the same point in ECO as in Normal you have to have the pedal pushed much further down.

Usually in Eco mode you still get the same maximum acceleration at maximum pedal, so the high acceleration is compressed at the end of the pedal travel. That means that you get finer control over the low acceleration, which usually leads to better economy.

But I don't know if the MG3 hybrid+ is the same. The petrol engine's injectors are presumably controlled by computer, so I can't see why it would be different in that respect.

Yes it does.

Yes, but I believe that at the extreme end, you can still get nearly or all the heat you would get in normal mode. Sort of like the accelerator pedal in Eco mode; you can still get 100% power if you press the pedal far enough.

I drive my ZS EV in Eco all the time. In extremely hot weather (tropical climate here), I just put the air conditioning way over towards the cold end. It works just fine.

don't know about the heating yet (always trying to keep it as low as possible) but it definitely halves the cooling A/C output

Surely in Paris stop/start traffic ACC is ideal? Whenever I'm in a slow-moving queue I just set the ACC to 30mph and it just creeps along behind the car in front so you don't need to bother with the constant accelerator/brake

In Paris and London traffic you can't afford to leave any - and I mean any at all! - gap between the cars ... ?. Unless you stick to the car in front, half the people jump in front of you and mopeds are all over the place, ACC would go crazy... Last traffic jam I was in was about 5 miles with constant start-stop and mopeds jumping in between cars out of nowhere...

I feel your pain. Just yesterday I was in fearful traffic, three cars nose to tail on a single track road on Skye until the two in front pulled in to a passing place and let me continue. And as if that wasn’t traumatic enough, things got ugly just a mile later when there was a bovine tailback completely blocking all well the lane. It took all my powers of persuasion and a couple of Magnette nudges to clear the jam ! I assure they didn’t need mopeds to cause chaos I’ll wash the car down later today ?‍

Hello, sorry I know the threads sounds a bit old but do you know if this issue has been fixed now ?

Was there any software update to allow ACC to use regenerative break ?

I was looking to buy a ZS EV from 2022 or above but I'm a bit concerned when I heard about this feature missing. It's a bit weird for an EV not to use that.
Not just for the lack of battery consumption/regen, but I'm also concerned about the Disk brake & pads usage which could be prevent.

No, as far as I know, this was because the ZS was based on the Petrol platform, they just used the off the shelf ACC unit. it is a shame. But I guess I can understand they were trying to hit a price point. so just used what they had.
