There is an issue that some some chargers cause some MGs to throw fault codes and be immobilized. Some roadside solutions sometimes work but if it strikes be prepared for a trip in a recovery vehicle.
MG Tech seem to be overwhelmed, pretty poor and very hard to get hold of.
MG dealers are motivated to keep quiet because they want to sell cars. They are also ill informed, overwhelmed, under trained and poorly supported by MG Tech.
The AA do not have the tech kit to reset MG fault codes.Their EV training seems to be how to put on rubber gloves and avoid touching anything.
Our forum masks the problem by dividing threads between the models and mixing car polishing tips threads up with newby information with technical debate and development.
1 The best solution to the issue is for MG to sort their software to make it resistant to charger vagaries.
2 Second best but needed is a fault code software reset protocol that can be driver initiated.
3. A simple OBD fault code reset capability would work for some more technical people. Certainly the AA shouldn't be held back by their having overly sophisticated tech. And a down and dirty OBD dongle could probaby be put in ther hands for a coupe of quid.
4 acknowledge the problem and disseminate the information to dealers
5 rejig the forum to collate technical info by topic across all the models
And also thank you. Keep up the good work

Though it would be flattering to think otherwise, MG Motors UK will have very little interest in the contents of this forum regardless of how it is structured.
If you want to have an impact, contact MG (directly and via your dealer) to make your point and persuade as many other affected owners as you can to do the same. It may also be worthwhile contacting the motoring press as they can get the issue to a much wider audience.
From a wider perspective, the forum structure certainly could benefit from an update and action is already in hand to look at this :)

Charging problem is (un)fortunately (?) not a safety issue so we can't lobby DVSA to investigate and intervene. If MG decide they don't want to fix it, there's very little we as consumers can do, other than reject the car outright.

DVSA may not be the right avenue, but has anyone thought to contact the SMMT?

My daughter collected her vehicle at the end of March and this has now happened on 2 occasions both times whilst she was in the car with her 2 year old son.
The first time the vehicle was recovered and returned to dealer where a 'software update' issue was performed to rectify the issue.
The second time - last night again alone with her 2 year old son at Swindon services. Once again vehicle immobilised, The AA said they would be with her in the hour by 20.30 she received a txt saying it would 22.30 hrs as lack or operators in the area. After numerous phone calls the only option available was a taxi home, leaving the vehicle at the services and to "leave the car key on the wheel' to enable collection!!
This is not acceptable on any level.
Has anyone rejected the vehicle following this issue?

Not in my experience, the AA guy knew exactly what to do and said this is a common problem with MG's.
After that unpleasant experienced I have bought an OBD Bluetooth dongle so I can do it myself if it happens again.
AA must be charging MG dealers for their calls and after one year when AA cover lapses the dealers will have to arrange for the fix themselves as cars are still under the warranty.

They used to prioritise a woman on her own, even if they weren't a member, when I was a patrol back in the 80s. Chivalry is lost to commercialism these days.

Appears that software update has not resolved fast charging issue? Was your car an ex demonstrator? If the car cannot fast charge it is not fit for purpose. If the car has had a repair attempt it can now be rejected under consumer law.

Where and how do we get an OBD dongle? Presumably its a bit of software on a stick, how do we get that data?
Thanks

I have got this Bluetooth OBDII scan tool for Android devices Amazon product ASIN B005NLQAHS but cheaper models might work just as well. I use Car Scanner app on my phone with it and it does the clear error codes command.
With it I can read HV battery SOH, it is 100% after 10k m and mostly fast charging but the result could be skewed by hidden unusable battery capacity.

I haven't contacted the organisations you mention but I will check them out when I get back to GB. Do you think the potential for the car to leave users stranded late at night might be a safety issue?

When it happened to me the AA man told me a spike in a faulty charger causes the car's battery to go offline. I must have fast charged my car at least 100 and seen the fault twice, first time car recovered itself within 10 min second time I had to call the AA.
While I believe any EV must be able to handle a faulty charger and most do, MG could blame the chargers.
To me it looks like MG EV's lack the hardware to handle spikes but a software update certainly could be able to remove the faulty state somehow like an HV battery reset.
