Android Auto Not Dimming Screen at Night

It's just that (see my thread in MG 5 forum regarding the same issue.) The quick fix is to flick the auto lights off and back on again.
Yes. That appears to be the only way. No combination of light or dark mode settings will get it to start in night mode.
The only other way I found is to preheat the car and the lights coming on and going back off remotely seems to do the same.

This seems to have stopped working, is there any way to get it working again? The screen is distractingly bright at night.

Is there a way to manually dim the android auto screen if we cannot get this working, or switch the screen off?

Toggle the automatic lighting off then on once the display is up and running. This forces the system to poll the light sensor and it will set the Android Auto screen in to night mode

I can't find the thread I started about this now, but others who replied said it's nothing to do with MG, that it's a bug in AA and that people with other makes of car also complain about it.

I have an SE and it's on R38, the latest version.
It never did this in my LEAF, but my MG4 is the same as everyone describes. I just flick the light off and on. No bother

I got that with other cars with AA since I used Android Auto. And whatever the phone I use (Samsung, Huawei, Google), I sometimes have the same issue.
I think it's a setting between AA and the car AA settings because when I got my MG4 mi 2023, I didn't experience that. It's appear later after AA app update. Or maybe infotainment update.
I got 1300R33 first for 6 weeks, then R46 in September 2023, R63 in December 2024. And it start doing that late 2023 or early 2024

What is the experience with Apple Car play users? This might be a deliberate design decision by MG4 and similar car models, to light up the car screen considering the eyes of the driver is likely coming from a well lit environment, or any other reason. It is too simple an implementation to be a bug. There are several simple ways to effect dimming properly if auto dimming with night time startup is the objective: In-built light sensor input works well on the main MG screen.

I've still been testing this. I found the best way is to flick the lights on and off while the car is starting up. AA detects the lights and starts in dark mode every time.
I was originally waiting for AA to start up first and then doing the lights but people thought I was flashing them on the road because I would be on the move by that time.
It's much more convenient to have it set up before you are on the road.
