Look ? at these eye watering figures spent on staffing shortages.Agreed- and why are we having to recruit from overseas? Because they stopped the bursary and few people can now afford the £8k to become a nurse. The powers that be were warned what would happen, but typically they took the route of short term savings and ended up with long term expense.
Easily comparable to current Octopus Go tariffs on offer.Back on electricity prices. British gas has just reintroduced it's EV driver tariff.
41.8 p per kwh peak
12 p per kwh off peak (midnight-5 am)
39 p per day standing charge.
Unfortunately, I didn't renew my Octopus Go early at end of September before the October price hike. When I contacted Octopus on several times in Sept I was advised not to renew early (I was at that time on 24.5p and 5p) as my tariff was fixed until Dec 17th. In September I would have given up 24.5p/5p for a rate of 40p/7.5p but since 40% of my consumption was at the GO Night rate it seemed to me to be reasonable hedging against the then-unknown October price rise. I should have stuck to my guns because the renewal in December will be to 44.35p daytime and 12p Go night-time.Hi,
What do people think the cap will mean for both standard and Octopus Go rates from April 2023?
The energy “cap” is rising from £2,500 to £3,000, which is a 20% rise (remember that the £66/67pm is a £400 subsidy we won’t get next year, so bills will actually rise by 43%).
The cap covers both standing charges and unit rates and the mix across gas and electricity varies - for example next year we may have lower standing charges if we have paid off some of the energy company failures from last year. Then also, the rates/charges vary regionally.

I am thinking the basic rate will be 40p/kWh and Octopus Go will be 50p/17.5p
Edit: And I am thinking rapid chargers will rise to 75-90p/kWh.
Edit2: Got my sums wrong! Corrected!
What's the standing charge comparison with Gas Octopus v BG?Easily comparable to current Octopus Go tariffs on offer.
Slightly more peak, same off peak but an extra hour and a lot less Standing charge.
And although strictly speaking they can adjust the direct debit amount I can also adjust it so I can balance the account much easier.Easily comparable to current Octopus Go tariffs on offer.
Slightly more peak, same off peak but an extra hour and a lot less Standing charge.
The Ofgem cap changes every 3 months but the government cap on current rates lasts until April, when it increases 20%.Just a thought but the price cap is reviewed every 3 months now so the next price rise is January 2023.
It is still cheaper. It is going to cost £7.50 to "fill up" my MG4 on the current Octopus Go night rate. That compares with £85 for my Skoda Karoq. The MG will do 200-250 miles. The Karoq gives me 300-350.To answer the OP's question, I think it means that the cost of electric car motoring will become even more expensive than it is getting now.
Person X is considering purchasing an MG4/ZSEV etc etc
Can I have my electric car grant? No
Okay, I've got a nice driveway for my car, can I book in soon for the workman to call around, which I presume will be after my home charger grant's been paid it? No, that grant's gone buddy.
The EV scrappage scheme is a gold mine isn't it? No
Okay fair enough. I'm on a standard tariff, it's peanuts, isn't it, to run an electric car isn't it? No
Okay then, I'll just pop into TESCO as I haven't much disposable income even though I work for a living, and use the free chargers, yeah? No
What's this, I just went past a public charger and I'm seeing 70p/KWH? Has someone vandalised it to pretend it's that price? No
I don't pay vehicle tax for this EV, if I but it, no? Correct. You're good for that one, but hurry, that one's going soon, too.
Person X: Oh well, my 1L Corsa isn't so bad after all.

We’ll run the dishwasher and washing machine at night. Tumble drier is currently broken but we may get a heat pump one to also run at night, or may just leave it.What's your Go day rate like. Washing machines and TVs and kettles etc in the daytime?
