Battery conditioning in extreme climate

Hi all,
Can anyone advise if the MG4 can actively cool the battery both when parked and also when plugged in?
I am living in Cyprus where temperatures can get up to >40C and am a little worried about excessive degradation, any feedback would be appreciated, I am looking at buying either the Trophy LR or the standard SE with the LFP battery which I am told is more heat tolerant.

I've not heard that the battery can be cooled per se, but obviously can be cooled enough to keep it at its preferred operating temperature and from overheating.

The battery is in the bottom of the car and so won't be in direct sun. It might get heated from the street below (though that will mostly be in the shade of the car), the ambient temperature or from the car above.

It has liquid running through it to keep the temperature at the desired level. This is a pretty wide range - up to 45 degrees should be fine.

I expect that when the car off the car isn't isn't doing anything active with this coolant (unless you instruct it to do something), but others might be able to confirm.

Nevertheless, even when not actively doing anything I would have thought the coolant will still be in place keeping the temperature relatively level throughout the pack.

Overall, I wouldn't worry too much about the temperature with the car sitting still, batteries are likely to get hotter when they charge and discharge, which is when the cooling system will be working actively.

I have the SE LR with the NCM battery, We also can reach 40c at times, When charging you can hear the cooling system kick in and this automatically turns on/off during the charging cycle. After a run , and you lock it , it sometimes continues with the cooling cycle for a few minutes, although this may be the A/C re-balancing itself. When locked and parked for a while I have never noticed it auto cooling no matter what the temperature. I guess Cyprus is like France where no matter what car you have shady parking is the thing to head for. As for the degradation that question won't really be answerable for another 8 years, although many theories promoting both sides of the argument exist.

I could claim to be an expert on cars because I own one and how many fans claim to be experts on how to manage their football team?

Someone on Twitter said they had googled him and found dozens of articles all spreading the same FUD. He seems to work for a company that sells EV chargers, which is odd.

The same guy said that this "Birmingham Mail" outfit only seems to publish short clickbait nonsense articles, so I wonder if it's a real newspaper or a front for FUD and CT.

Experts told me that the recommendation is to both drain the tank before parking it up and to make arrangements for a frontal lobotomy.

Hi Thanks for your input, I have been deliberating for quite a while about this but in the end I have ordered the standard range with the LFP battery. The island is not very big so the shorter range should not be a problem, not too sure how the SE seats will wear though, I would have liked the electric Trophy seats with the leather sides.

Regarding the Birmingham Mail article, someone on Twitter copied Volta EV in to it, and they are now blowing their tops at the publications responsible and demanding to have the article taken down. Their director never said any such thing, his name isn't even spelled right, and they're livid.

I have a MG4 Sr here in Portugal. I have made several journeys, but this weekend I went to Sevilla (700km Journey) in Spain and travelled at +35° not noticeable problems on charging, in my journey back to home, as it's been a very hot weekend 35-42°. I made 230km from several to Merida and charged on the Tesla Supercharger, no problem after that a made a second charge in Portugal at 40° and 5 minutes after started it reduced the charging speed to 30kW, made another one in the next charger 100km away with 38° the same problem, made another charge near my home near Porto near the coastline the temperature was much more cooler +24° there it charged at full speed 82kW.
Conclusion the car in extreme temperature in long journeys overheats more than 35°(outside temp.) the cooling system doesn't spool enough to cool property!!
In comparison in the Tesla supercharger all cars that were charging the fans and the compressors were working hard, and the MG was at a very low speed.
Does anyone experienced charging at this hi temp ambient temperature?

I haven’t heard the battery cooling system working when the car is off but it hasn’t been hot enough in the UK.
When DC charging I can hear the system running the coolant through, sometimes I hear the A/C kicking in, when thr battery is rather hot (>37C from memory) at higher states of charge (>50%) but I will double check next time I DC charge,

Hi!I almost forgot I have the charge curve of 1 of the charge and another one in the Tesla charger, as you could see in the 1st one is on the Zunder Network it charged 17.46Kw in 27Min, note these are Hipower chargers
