Hello all and thank you for all the help and advice that has been offered all very much appreciated for those who have read my posts you've probably guessed I'm getting on now, My previous vehicle was an Audi A3 Sport back I'd had it from new for 22 years and everything about it was straight forward 163000 on the clock when we said good bye I always thought it would be my last car
I never thought about EV but was sold straight away with the MG Zs but who would have guessed it could be so complicated but I absolutely love it! Anyway enough of my ramblings.........
Bottom right of pilot screen battery sign with ready above i green to it left circle made up of 2 red sections and 1 green with the number 3 in the middle what is it telling us?

Do you mean the regenerative braking (3 levels) indicator? The image is from the handbook - P190 in my case.

@RTB

I think that green is the highest regeneration, amber medium, and red lowest? But it’s feasible that it’s the other way round! It always reverts to the highest regeneration anyway, so that should make the identifying colour obvious.

Sorry - that wasn’t actually much use!!

Something I have often wondered is whether the brake light come on while slowing with regenerations or only when the brakes pedal is pressed?

I often drive on the freeway using cruise control and rarely need to apply the brakes and wonder if those following me are warned of my slowing.

Brake lights work the same as when a combustion engine slows the car and only come on when you press the brake pedal.

Not the case for my (2023, bought 3/2024), Portuguese ZS EV LR. I checked by driving at night and observing the brake lights in the rear view mirror when using regen braking but not the brake pedal. The brake lights do come on when using regen (in my car at least).

as soon as the regen starts, brake lights come on. I drive on 3 and as soon as I lift the accelerator pedal (almost said "gas" pedal😅), brake lights come on

Of course it was thank you

Just to add on brake lights and regen - tried it yesterday on 2022 ZS. On regen 1 my brake lights are not coming on since the slowing down is quite weak, weaker than engine braking on ICE cars. My brake lights come on at regen 2 and 3 almost as soon as I lift the foot of the accelerator. As mentioned above, depends on speed and level of regen. The car is doing it as it should. On motorways and using adaptive cruise control, the brake lights come on if the breaking is a bit more substantial rather than a minor adjusting of speed, a bit up or down.

If you are in regen level 3 and release the accelerator them the brake lights will come on without pressing the brake pedal.

Most cars nowadays have multiple modes that turn on the brake light.

1. The brake pedal switch for when you actually press the brake pedal.
2. Accelerometer....This one is actually already in the car, used to know if the airbags should be deployed.

#2 measures the acceleration of decelleration in all axis and if the car slows down more than a certain amount, it will put the brake lights on.

On some cars (Dont know if the ZS EV does it also) if the decelleration exceeds a certain amount, it will flash the brake lights and/or put the hazards on, to tell those behind you, that you are braking hard.

Yes, definitely on my 2022 ZS, I had to brake fairly briskly and all 4 indicator warning/hazard lights came on by themselves. You just turn them off on the switch ...
