Hi,
Can official MG5 tyre pressure sensors be bought individually or just in packs of 4?

Just back from a very unsatisfactory 4th service with my official MG5 garage in Ireland. I originally booked my 2021 pfl MG5 in because the warning light for ONE failed tyre pressure sensor came up on my car's screen. They suggested to do the 4th service at the same time.

Fast forward a month and they had not ordered the tyre pressure sensor in despite me telling them. But they did do the 4th service at €550 (~stg£450?)!! I knew the 4th service was going to be expensive and that's ok, I guess. But I'm really annoyed that they didn't pre-order the sensor and now they're claiming they can only be ordered in packs of 4 (~ €280/stg£230), not individually. And I'm not sure but there might be labour charges on top of that.

Alternatively, can an average 'independent' garage install and pair one of these sensors to the car's computer? Searching on here seems to give me contradictory answers - official vs unofficial sensors & receivers?? (and I'm stupid :) )

There were 1 or 2 other things that annoyed me but I'll leave that for another time when I've calmed down.

TIA

Thanks! Part of me is wondering if maybe they do come in trade packs of 4 but they don't want to hold stock and are trying to pass on the cost to me?

You can buy an individual one and have any competent tyre fitting centre install and program it for you for a few pounds. You don't need to play the dealers game of grift.

Why do you think its a faulty tyre sensor
I had a Hyundai Kona which gave me false trye pressure readings
I simply overinflated to 50 PSI then down to 20 then back up to the recomended pressure

@Paulie68 - thanks. I was worried a indie tyre fitting centre might not have the right computer equipment to get the sensor 'talking' to the car's computer. 'MG Clive's' link above shows one official sensor is very approx €50 so my official garage's quote is kinda in the ball park for 4 (Ireland is very expensive). But quoting me for 4!! Very naughty.

@Steve Kaye - there was a warning light on the dashboard and the tyre pressure screen did not show a pressure reading for the affected tyre.

Thanks for all the replies. Just to potentially close this out. I visited an independent mechanic who I trust. He said he could install individual good quality non-MG sensors but the price for 4 would be similar to the official MG garage.

Interestingly, he suggested there might be some logic behind the MG garage selling sensors in packs of 4. He said these sensors have a little battery in them and they last 5 years on average. Therefore my sensor might have a failed battery. And if one failed from new, it was likely the other 3 might not be too far behind and changing all 4 in one go might be best practice. It's an (Irish MOT) fail so best to get ahead of the curve?

To think, in the old days, you could eyeball the tyres or use a £1 tool to measure the tyre pressure, it's a very expensive development! Progress, eh!

Thanks again.
