Car locked with the key inside...

You shouldn't be able to lock yourself inside the car - with or without the fob. The door handles should act as a manual release.

Yes, there was a software issue in the early days where this exact scenario happened, but MG issued a recall notice to get all cars updated to resolve this. (It was raised as a safety case with the DVSA in the UK).

When was the recall? I left my wife in the car to get something from a shop and she couldn't get out of the car. none of the doors would open, nor the windows.

73 reg car should have already had it. RC008 was the recall patch.

It's due in for its second service early Feb, so I will check with the dealer.

I always put my key in my trouser pocket, so far, I've never left my trousers in the car when I've pressed the lock button on the door handle.

It's common knowledge that I keep my car key inside my bra, so I never even have to think about which pocket or handbag it's in, and do I have it on me. Last night when I came back from my road trip I was aware that it had fallen on the bedroom floor when I was getting undressed, but I didn't do anything to tidy it up. This morning I was putting more or less the same clothes on, and looked around for the key, but couldn't see it. Oh well, I wasn't taking the car out, so I just left it. I know it's there somewhere, I'll get it later. Got on my bike to go to church. Nothing noteworthy...

The same thing happened to me with my Luxury R46/22 "Trophy".
I opened the trunk and left my backpack with my smartphone and key inside, closed it, and was left outside. I couldn't open it.
If I pressed the handle to unlock the car, the alarm went off, and I had to go back home for the spare key.
With the latest R67 update, the same thing happened again, and now when I close the trunk, it opens automatically and prevents the vehicle from locking with the key inside.
