Car locked with the key inside...

You shouldn't be able to lock yourself inside the car - with or without the fob. The door handles should act as a manual release.

Yes, there was a software issue in the early days where this exact scenario happened, but MG issued a recall notice to get all cars updated to resolve this. (It was raised as a safety case with the DVSA in the UK).

When was the recall? I left my wife in the car to get something from a shop and she couldn't get out of the car. none of the doors would open, nor the windows.

73 reg x-power.

...keep up at the back, Terry :)

The same thing happened to me with my Luxury R46/22 "Trophy".
I opened the trunk and left my backpack with my smartphone and key inside, closed it, and was left outside. I couldn't open it.
If I pressed the handle to unlock the car, the alarm went off, and I had to go back home for the spare key.
With the latest R67 update, the same thing happened again, and now when I close the trunk, it opens automatically and prevents the vehicle from locking with the key inside.

I’m joining the club! I had an appointment after work so put my work bag (with my keys in there) in the boot which opened as expected without unlocking the car. Then I shut the boot, the car locked itself, I walk to the driver door and press the button, nothing happens. I swear under my breath as I remember this thread. Tried the boot, of course the alarm starts blaring, thankfully the app then let me cancel the alarm and also unlock the car.

I’m was a little surprised the car decided someone trying the boot was an attempt to illegally gain entry and worthy of notifying everybody in the neighbourhood.

I wonder if this is a fault or just a limitation of the system. It sort of has to lock the boot even though the keys are detected nearby, otherwise you couldn’t close/lock the boot whilst standing next to it. But perhaps a way to detect keys on the inside of the boot would’ve been a good addition.

The exact same thing happened to me, I had to go home to get the spare key.

I solved the problem by updating my Luxury/Trophy vehicle to R67. Just to be safe, I performed the same process to see how it would behave, and the trunk opens by itself when I leave the key inside and try to close it.
