I have the trophy model and for some reason I have never been able to hit over 80kW when charging.

Ionity chargers I hit around 73kWh, BP Pulse I maxed out at 50kWh.

Has anyone else seen not been able to hit the higher figures?

I haven't been to a really fast charger yet but got 87kW at 50% SOC from a BP Pulse the other day. I have a Trophy.

Only got the car on Friday but took it to a local MFG charging area and achieved in excess of 100kw within a few minutes on a 150kw charger. Vehicle charge was probably at around 45% or so at the time.

Hi, what SOC are you starting at and is the battery warm?
Yeah, using the ionity is motorway charging and I am driving for around 30 minutes before hand and have around 25-30% charge when starting charge.

And the BP pulse was today and I had around 70% and had just driven for 45 minutes.

To get the highest charge rate you need to be under 50% probably between 20-30%

Thank you all for the info!

Now that I understand that it won’t charge near to the maximum it can I’m not worried that there was a possible issue with the car.

Finally!! Got the higher numbers.

Exactly. It won't charge very fast when you plug in above 35% SOC.

Ambient and battery temperature are also relevant of course. Battery should be above 20°C.

But does it go on charging fast once it has come up to 35% or do you have to wait a long time for it to get to a high percentage regardless?

This was mine peaking at over 140kw/h at over 50% charge last week (Trophy). By the time it got to 70-75% charge, if I remember rightly, the rate had dropped by about a half.

Went to Tesla Wokingham yesterday (138kW max) and I achieved:

134kW from 29%-55% SOC (basically the maximum the supercharger can do with losses).
103kW at 60%
67kW at 70%
57kW at 80%
28kW at 90%

It took 30 mins to go from 29-90%.

This was after a drive of 2.5-3 hours so battery was nice and warm.

This is really good - better than most EVs in this class will achieve in the real world.

Anything above 80-90% SOC is really slow and should only be done if absolutely necessary. Did it once (in the Ioniq 5 though) before going back from Italy, and 90-100% took almost as long as 20-80%.

Yes, past 90% it gets slower and slower and never worth getting to 100% unless you absolutely need it.

Thanks. Mine's (going to be) the basic SE, and I gather that battery has some significant differences though. Anyone care to elaborate?
SE SR or SE LR? If LR, will be the same as above. For SR, the charging speed is slower, I have not heard of anyone getting more than 85kW or so, short of the advertised 115kW. This maybe a software limitation that will change, also might be that the max rates are very sensitive to battery temperature and people will get higher speeds on the SR in summer.

Sorry, I should have said it is the SR. I've only charged it twice as of now, using the granny charger, and I'm not fussed about the speed because I'm home and ignoring it.

I chose this model because I seldom do more than about 120 miles round trip in a day, and I seldom do that sort of thing two days in a row, so I'm interested to see if the granny charger can keep pace with my driving needs.

There is a public charger about five minutes walk from my house, so I do have backup if needed. If I need the public charger more than once in a while I'll look at getting a charging box.

Reasonably pleased with the drive home.

There are a lot of hills on the route but 3.7m/kWh is good given the terrain.

This was a mixture of dual carriageway and single carriageway, staying at 65mph with overtakes at 70+ on dual and 50-60 on single, includes 10 minutes in start stop traffic and a 5 minute toilet break. AC was on about half the time, all in ECO mode. There's various slow bits on the route that explain the lower average speed.

I started with 93% SOC, so looking at about 225 miles of range from full, which is an improvement on 200 during winter and hopefully means 250 will be doable in summer.

Note to self: must get some screen wipes!

Part of the problem here is that public charging areas will balance the load between chargers. You may have seen stories / YouTube reports where people find a sign similar to "station closed due to lack of power at the site"

If a site becomes busy, it may balance power between chargers and as such you may not get the full speeds you might expect.

At what point did it drop from 57kw to 28kw?

These are the more detailed readings I took:

79% 58.5kW
80% 57.0kW
82% 55.1kW
84% 52.9kW
85% 49.6kW
86% 38.1kW
88% 32.6kW
89% 30.5kW
90% 28.4kW

So there's was a slow drop off and then after 85% the rate plunged rapidly then dropped off more slowly again.

That's great performance. Worth staying to 85%, which is more than enough to be on your way.
