Hello all,
Whilst awaiting delivery of my Fizzy orange MG4 which at 62 years of age will be my first new car, or more accurately my wives first new car, I,ll be Parker to Lady Penelope, I have been thinking of the similarity of it to my very first car at the age of 18.
That too had a Morris badge but was made by others , was rear wheel drive , and an automatic with a jazzy lime green paint job. It was also made in a factory with communist workers .
If the internet was around in 1979 the forum pages for it would have far exceeded what we are reading and commenting on today!
It was of course the mighty 1.3 Marina .
We of course know little about the general happiness and job satisfaction levels of the Chinese production staff who screw together our much waited for cars, but going back to the 70,s it seems that nuts/bolts and painting came secondary to breaking up pallets and burning them in sawn off 56 gallon oil drums outside the factory gates whilst demanding pay rises to match inflation figures and berating management and government equally, how times change!
I hope of course my new car is going to be more reliable and have a greater longevity than my first ( apparently the Marina was the most scrapped car in history ) mine only lasted 8 years. I am not a natural gambler , optimist, or religious devotee but if you believe what,s round comes round, and with my history , and many of the pages of discontent on this forum SHOULD I BE WORRIED or should I change my views on the three previous personality traites?
As a race do we really learn from history, comments from armchair philosopher's welcome. Cheers.
