Circuit breaker home charger

Help please my home charger has a circuit breaker fitted which I believe is normal only mine has burnt out after 11 over night charge the sparky replaced but 7 over night charges gone again can any body help thank you in advance.

I'd be querying what was making it "burn out" ... is it underrated for the job? (Mine has a 32A MCB with integrated 30mA RCD). Where/how is it "burning out"?

What charge unit do you have and what rating? (If your car has a single phase onboard charger then the maximum power draw from the charge point should be less than 7.4kW, as the OBC is rated to 6.6kW).

I have an Indra pro charger the circuit breaker says inside the lid WSPD40N WER32B-030 with a label (car charger)

Please explain which parts of the breaker have burnt. The outside terminals, the breaker contacts or the internal electronics?

Is the breaker situated where its heat can be released and thus the breaker cooled? A breaker's performance is deleteriously affected by temperature.

When you get an electrician to replace the breaker can you get them to check the in-current when you are charging the car?

I think WSPD40N is a surge protector. Is that the part that keeps burning out?

If the EVSE is drawing 30 or 32 amps the circuit breaker should be 40 amps. This will account for short spikes in your supply. Ideally a 40 amp RCCB (residual current circuit breaker) should be fitted at the AC distribution box where all the other circuit breakers live, not at the EVSE itself.

Get the supply checked by an Electrical Engineer or a good Electrician if you suspect large surges. If the surge protector is too small it will burn out. The problem though may be the actual supply.

This wall is north facing.It was all installed by a local company.as you can see by my photos no visible damage .what next

Not sure what the norm is, but mine has 40 amp protection giving plenty of headroom for a 7.2kwh charger.

I believe that @Corindikev has found the problem. He says the breaker should be rated at 40Amps. I've just looked at my installation and it has a 40Amp RCBO.

Not sure of the make 'W' but would suggest a better brand and 40A

Is that the meter cupboard next to it?
We have the Indra Smart Pro next to our supply / meter cupboard.
However, the Indra isn't wired into our main consumer unit. They used Henley (?) Blocks on the tails to the isolator to the Smart Pro. There is a CT Clamp to limit current to the Indra based on household load.

Whitecliffe is the manufacturer for both.
The SPD is 40A , and RCB is a 32A 30mA.

OP, can you clarify ‘burnt-out’.

Burnt-out: Can’t see heat damage in the pictures.

Tripped:

“Twin handle system,black handle controls MCB function, white handle controls RCD function. If only black handle trips off, it indicates overload or short circuit. If both white and black handle trip, it will indicate residual current fault.”

If both have an electrician check the earthing arrangement. Also check the pins on your charging cable, Try a different cable.

If black only, try lowering to 16A on the charging screen in the car and see what happens.

Also, if this is an MG4, it doesn’t charge at 32A so a 32A breaker shouldn’t trip, (regardless).
