Cracks in rear light plastic - internal

That's useful for SE owners, thanks.

Don't forget though that the Trophy has a different rear, with the huge light bar and camera assembly. Not sure if this is why it is supposedly more work to remove?
The spoiler is the same size on Trophy and SE it's just that the Trophy has the disco lights built in and the camera simply hangs out underneath the same as the SE aftermarket example. They are the same fitting points for both, just two more cables to unclip on the Trophy.

But it doesn't matter what the book time is as you are not paying ;)

My original comment, I suppose, was that 1.75 hrs is generous and the task is extremely simple. A tech who had seen it before could do it and test it in 20-25 mins.

Good luck with the replacement.

MG4 parts seem much more available than they were two years ago.

I have 2 cracks in mine. It's a 23 plate. Do I take it back to the mg dealer i bought it from. Mine is second hand and the cracks was there when we bought. We did mention it to them but they said all was ok. Is this under warranty so can be replaced.

I don't really understand how your supplying dealer can say cracks are Ok... it is a bit like saying "don't worry about the obvious subsidence at the back of the house, it's ok". Were they claiming they weren't there or not serious or what?

It should be covered under warranty at any MG dealer, it doesn't need to be where you bought it from.

Do you have a picture you can post here? There are some join lines that can look like cracks.

It will probably depend on how obvious the cracks are. I would definitely take pictures, take them in and discuss with the dealer.

Not sure what MGs criteria for cracks are but certainly some people have had them replaced.

I think cheap plastic, poor design (doesn't appear to be able to drain), maybe a bad seal is contributing.

On the other hand, all I need is some fish and I have an illuminated mobile tank!! 🤣
An update: they assessed it on the spot and didn't quibble because it is quite clearly full of water and you can see it sloshing around. The only concern was whether I had damaged it (e.g. backed into a post), which I obviously haven't.

Parts will take a few days to come and apparently it is 1hr 45min labour to change, the bootlid has to be stripped out to remove it, so they said.

Did they do it under warranty? I'm still having to fight with them.

I have exactly the same problem. It’s going to the MG Garage tomorrow for assessment.

I have a crack in the tail bar plastic and it is full of water. On closer inspection there are small cracks appearing right along the plastic. No idea how this has happened other than it being a manufacturing fault - cheap plastic? The water is affecting the lights - thankfully break lights still work but the light bar is flickering. It’s going to the dealership tomorrow for assessment.

That’s how it started with my 23 plate. Now cracked and full of water. Taking it in to be assessed tomorrow. Did you get it sorted?

I've been waiting almost 3 months since my dealer took pictures, referred it to MG warranty department, they then lost it apparently and so they've sent it again last month. Still no update. Sigh
