Crash due to Lane keep assist.

I've been writing software for 45 years and the trouble is it can rapidly become a pile of pooh which is impossible to fix. It was a mistake having NCAP force manufacturers down this route without mandating produict standards and having a way of certifying them which is akin to software as a medical device, software as a medical device

I think the problem arose from MGs software being a bit of a pile of pooh to begin with and updating random modules just caused further issues.

It's strange how some manufacturers can get it right from the outset or if they don't they fix it pretty quick, our 2 other cars being a case in point

This is absolutely right to be fair. I had a VW before the MG, and its lane keep and adaptive cruise control was fantastic. So good, I never bothered to turn the lane keep off at any stage of ownership, and used the ACC at every opportunity. Such a great system, especially in comparison to the MG.

My Cupra is exactly the same, the Born had some software issues (not safety) when it was first released fixes were quickly released and my one has been rock solid since I bought it at the start of the year.

Just for the record, I timed my "pre-flight routine" of turning off the LKA and speed limit detector, and it was ten seconds. So yes, it does just take seconds to turn off.

I totally appreciate what everyone else is saying here, it's just that I have taken a solemn vow not to let this annoy me.

Did it have steering correction? Cause not every car did in 2019.
If not, an LKA with only an Alert system is much less intrusive.

Yes, it certainly did. Using the ACC on the motorways for example, it virtually negotiated some slight bends by itself…although it would tell you off for not holding the wheel after a while!

Must have different software to me. As shown, I don't always have the option at all.

It probably does have different software, because yours is a Trophy and mine is an SE. I'd be very surprised if you didn't have the option at all though. Doesn't it appear when you press the brake?

I kept it on for about two days after purchasing the car, but it's too aggressive for my driving style, so I prefer it turned off.

On my drive back this morning I switched LKA off before starting, got confirmation screen and toggle switch was off. Yet part of the way back I was getting unnecessary steering interventions and then saw the LKA icon had turned green. I had not stopped.

On our 51 excite, the LKA off button is always there, but I think it turned itself back on once, when we stopped at lights.

So you switched the LKA off after pressing the brake pedal and it still switched itself on. Sounds like a software update is needed.

Possibly. That's not happening for another 11 months. Two year service intervals here.

In the UK we don't have to wait for the service to get the software updated if there's a problem but I guess your nearest dealer is hours away.

About 40 minutes but it's not a free option outside of scheduled services. Given it's a multi hour job, it would not be cheap. Once I build up the energy I'll put in a call to the dealer about it.

Did your head lights switch on and off, e.g. driving through tunnels?

Could you try it as a warranty claim? Probably hard to make that point with software, but at the same time it sounds your software might be glitching and is therefor "not fit for purpose"? It'll be a long shot I guess...
