Diamond Bright/Ceramic Coating.

As part of the purchase of my MG4, I was persuaded to have the Diamond Bright coatings to both of paintwork and interior seat fabric.
Apparently the Diamond Bright exterior coating is such that you never need to reapply it.
I have the Camden Grey metallic paint.
Very early days but it seems to be working ok.

So I was wondering whether anyone else has had this applied and what are your views.

As with any such coating, it's the level of detailing prior to coating that matters. (Applying coating on to poorly-detailed surfaces just locks in the swirls and blemishes).

As siteguru has said it's only as good as the person doing it and the prep work that has gone into it.
It definitely still needs looked after as you would with any other new car

Yes. Agreed. It was applied from new and because I was not particularly interested in having it done, it was discounted. And the dealer got the person who was going to apply it to come and explain how he would do it.
But you are right and that was why I raised the thread to ask for others experiences.

Most new cars from the factory have some swirling in the paintwork - the colour can also make this more noticeable . It depends on your expectations.
This has been covered elsewhere but these are my views;
Be very wary about any add-ones from the dealer - always check alternative suppliers and costs.
Especially with paint protection, you will almost certainly get a much better job by going direct to a well recommended detailed.
For most, paint protection will be a pointless extra cost. You’ll still find that after a few winters you’ll need to have the car redone. Again this depends on how fussy you are. Most won’t really know where to look and have a clue about good detailing.

Yes. As I mentioned it was heavily discounted as I was not a big fan of it. But I already have another similar product which I can use if necessary. And I have the guarantee so believe I am covered.

I was offered this and previously Auto glym. Biggest money maker for the garage. My neighbour was doing this for a ford garage and they buy the kits for £40. My MG4 is 2 weeks old and first thing i did was put it under a detailing lamp and yes it has swirls.As soon as the weather gets better i will lightly machine polish as im yet to see a garage do the treatment properly.

Garages also know about the psychology of selling. This is why add-ones have become commonplace.
The average person spending a large amount like on a car will not scrutinise smaller amounts that well - in for a penny in for a pound.
Remember to treat those £50 mats with as much attention as the £32k that you’re spending on the car! It’s all money!

You’ll be lucky if the salesman makes £60 on selling you the car alone, selling you paint protection/seat protection/GAP/alloy wheel insurance boosts his earnings dramatically.
And it really annoys me when they sneakily add it to PCP figures, meaning you pay interest on them…
I always ask for a ‘bare bones’ figure, I can keep a car clean myself without any of these.

It's like including kitchen appliances with a new house. It takes as long as your mortgage is for to pay them off by which time you've replaced them several times over but are still paying for the originals.

Yup, first thing I did was to say I’ll pay for the mats and type 2 cable separately. No way am I going to pay interest on top!

This wasn't my experience with MG. I asked for PCP and they quoted me exactly what I asked for with no extras. There was no attempt to sell me gap insurance, paint protection, alloy wheel insurance or anything else. Was a great no-pressure experience. Eden Newton Abbot.

Not diamond bright but Gen-3 that’s also got life time guarantee, you should have a complimentary care car kit to wash car with their shampoo, remove bird poo etc. otherwise you may find guarantee is not Valid. Relation owns a car repair & paint shop he said modern paints are water based and paint protection is alway a good thing.

I had Diamondbrite on my previous car, and when I sold it after 6 years, the paintwork was still beautiful. I found it makes the car much easier to clean too.
I had no hesitation in having the treatment on my new MG, but I don’t do it through the car dealership, I use someone locally.

I had my Picadilly Blue 5 done with SafeGard when I bought it 18 months ago. The cost (don't remember what) was added to the PCP, but I pay 0% on that as it was an offer at the time. The whole pack includes shampoo, glass cleaner, wheel cleaner, fabric cleaner, cockpit spray and more, to the value of about £100 if you look at direct replacements. When the shampoo ran out I bought a hydrophobic one from Halfords, and I must say the finish shows no swirl marks anywhere and is very easy to hand wash and dry. I am very pleased that I did it as it seems to be doing the job it was intended for very well. . My previous car was a nightmare to keep clean!
