Did you buy your EV to Save The Planet?

I had the very early ZS (one of the first 200 available) then changed to the MG5 estate car when that came out. Brilliant car loved it.
Then looked at the MG 4, hated the shape, especially the crinkled rear end, and went back to Citroen eBerlingo (not for sleek, svelte looks obvs 🤣)
Going with my head a Berlingo would suit us better ..... but...... for me the MG4 is still a looker and does stick out in a car park , especially in orange.
My wife did choose , or at least spot it on the internet when she was looking , knowing next to nothing about cars she went purely on the colour . Our previous car was chosen because it had a massive glass roof . ( mistake ). We did test drive a top spec Kia e-niro , but even at secondhand price it came in at 10 000 euros over the MG.

It's interesting looking at what cars the contributors to this thread drive. Most of you have or have had an MG4.

I wonder for how many of you the MG4 was your first EV?

Yep. First EV, first MG. Came from a 2011
Mercedes V6 Diesel coupe. So definitely a step up, Planet and Money saving wise.
But that's not why I bought it. 🙂👍

Can’t miss the Berlingo in a car park. It’s taller than most. I changed the radio antenna for a bright red bee sting. And when I press unlock on the key the whole car does a Christmas tree impression it’s so grateful I’ve returned to cherish it once more.

MG4 is my first EV as well, it is worth noting though that this thread originated in the MG4 subforum, so that may also explain why so many responses are from MG4 owners.

The poverty pack MG4 51 was our first factory EV, I also have a Blade, commercially factory built in a Getz 2010 body, but the MG4 is just so much better.
The '74 VW Kombi did around 500kms on 50 ltrs LPG, so it was cheap to run and a lot of fun to drive, so it will return to the road as an EV.
The Gen 2 iTech '05 Prius is great to drive, does around 700kms on 50 ltrs petrol, that will probably end up full electric .... if I live that long.
The Winnebago motorhome, 10 tonnes of fuel guzzling house on wheels. V10 6.8 ltr, goes like stink ..... from service station to service station  Actually, it does 500kms on 200 ltrs of LPG, at a cost of around $200, it does about the same on petrol, for around $440 o_O so it doesn't do a lot of driving on petrol

No, as you can see, my vehicles aren't aimed at saving the planet, but I'm made keen on solar and battery technology, so the MG4 with LFP cells was a no brainer for me ... thankfully, the wife agreed ....

I had been involved with Electric vehicles in 1998, amazed that a bus chassis could out accelerate a Golf GTi !
When the MG5 came out I realised that an EV car was looking viable particularly as I could always charge the car at home and not worry about the charging networks.
I test drove one and was offered a great deal so I bought it.
After 5 years I still have the same car and it has been faultless, probably the most reliable car I have owned. (VW, Skoda, Audi, Mercedes, Lotus, BMW, Alfa Romeo, Renault and Bentley.

I do like the fact that it never costs more tha 2p a mile in electricty and in the summer we are driving on sunshine.
I intend to run the car until it stops or I stop!
I find it a real pleasure to drive, with effortless power and its hill climbing ability is very handy living in West Wales.
I think the MG5 will become a really good Banger to run, they are excellent value to buy reminds me a bit like the Ford Model T !

I'd still be driving my MG5 if some 'person' hadn't drove into me on the wrong side of the road and wrote it off. I could forgive it the front wheel spin.

A very similar journey, early ZS, then MG5 and then a move away from MG, for me to a second hand Hyundai Kona (again not exactly for the looks!).
I did like the look of the MG4 but my wife (short a***) couldn't have lived with those wide door sills for getting in and out !
I hated the previous Konas.

I like the front end of the current Kona, but the back end still rankles with the rear light clusters bulging out oddly.
