Granny charger charge rates

I was topping up the car last night using the granny charger included with car, and I was able to get 20% during my cheaper 5 hour tariff with Octopus, and what I saw on the app is that it was pulling on average 1.95kwh to charge car, but on my IHD I could see 2.4kwh~ being used on top of my normal usage. I think at the end I saw like 2.06kwh being shown on the app. Either way it finished before my higher rate came on.

Your IHD will show more because of the background house use which is 450 watts, this will be fridge TV any transformers to charge you phone IPad modem for internet fish pond pump if you have one. I turn as much as possible off at night now and the house comes down to about 155 watts. You would be amazed how much is running in the background at night which can be turned off saving you some money over the year.

Mine sits at about 0.2kW most of the time, just waiting for the solar and battery to get installed in two weeks time.

How does your sit at 0.2kW most of the time that only 200 watts ?

Yes when it’s all fitted then the app will be working you have nothing to link to yet.

No, the app is working fine just showing house use and the Zappi when connected, the Eddi is all set up but off untill the solar installed.

That very low use for the day time so you will charge your storage battery then the car do your washing and use the water heater on these sunny day, you will save a shed of money. What size system are you getting.

14 panels 3.5kw hybrid invertor with 9.5kw battery.
Hopefully no grid use apart from a bit of car charging as it will be at work

Sounds about right, not used a granny charger but think they give 1.2kw , (5amp x 230v =1.15kw), 3kw would be 13amp.
3kw on a plug top is a bit much, unlike a heater or kettle which only pulls 3kw for short or sporadic periods, the charger pulls maximum current continuously .

No worries about the plug. All our 13A plugs are rated for continuous use.

Even 10 Amps on a continuous heavy load over a long time, is pushing the rating of a standard 13 Amp three pin plug.
The quality of some of the cheaper produced three pin plugs ( although rated as 13 Amps ) is questionable.
The weakest point due to the constant heavy load, is the live conductor pin that carries the 13 Amp rated fuse.
Some heat will be generated at this point and should be monitored regularly for any signs of over heating.
Brown scorching at the outlet is typical sign.

After years in electrics/electronics I agree that the pin connection is a week point but the fuse should always be the weakest point in an ideal world. The plugs should be able to take 16A continuous current (can't remember the exact figure). Ideally poor quality plugs should not enter this country but if course they do
