I'd just like to correct this, as it keeps coming up, and it's just nonsense! Current paint systems use a water based colour coat to help reduce the use of solvent based, more harmful paint systems. However, the finishing coat is still a clear solvent based lacquer. This is the same as it's ever been and is not "softer", or any different to what it ever was!!

Any scratching is down to incompetent dealer staff, full stop, not "softer paint". As has already been said, it's best not to let anyone else wash your car except yourself, or trusted, reputable detailers, if you're particular about keeping the paintwork nice.

fair enough. I was only going on experience. Is what I wrote after ‘however’ incorrect?

Are all clear coats exactly the same then?

A point well made, completely lost on my dealers, even through I stressed to them before the purchase I wanted them to be careful with the paintwork. My car has swirling all over it and it looks awful in direct sunlight. Dealer said they'd take it back and polish, but no f**king way will that happen, based on their 'performance' so far it'll probably come back looking worse. I'm going to have to pay for a professional to polish/seal the paintwork.

That will be expensive won’t it?

Good luck, I’ll just be glad to get mine back after my little mishap one night, driving a Mercedes GLA 180 hire car at present and whilst it’s okay it’s not my MG, my wife says it’s like having another baby in the family the way I talk about the car, but I do seriously love it and the money being saved by free charging...no I’m not a Yorkshire man....just born and bread in Essex...just want my black beauty back. The Mercedes has cost me £55 in fuel and £60 in the Congestion Charge..not happy.

Took the car to the garage, they apparently reapplied the update, but they couldn't get it to charge with the doors open, so I'll be calling the other local dealer I think 🙄 they did say after they did it it told them nothing needed doing after they double checked. I have no idea now, haha, I just tried on the 7kw charger and it still says "connected but not charging" they also said to me that they (after my persistence) were actually told that they car should charge unlocked after the update. But they still couldn't get it to do it.. sighs

That's a shame. On one hand I want to go easy on MG as they're still a fledgling company but on the other hand its annoying watching them struggle. I made that video so you had proof.

So do these buff out then??

They will, mine had swirls on delivery too. I may, in the summer try and hand polish them out myself with the turtle wax black ceramic wax when I can buy some they say it helps....

The issue isn't MG, it's the sh**y franchised dealerships. The crappy ones will be just as bad with other Marques.

Those swirls will come out completely with appropriate skilled polishing. Wax application will mask them and make them less noticeable, but not remove them. Treat it to a professional paint rectification with a reputable local detailer :)

Many owners of Tesla’s send their new cars direct to a paint correction specialist, it’s amazing how bad the paint defects are before any use. Those swirl marks will polish out if done correctly but it could take up to a day to do properly.

It's a problem across the board, cars generally turn up with perfect out the factory paint, but they are very dirty from sitting in ship hulls, filthy docksides, & transporter journeys. The last thing you then need is the lowest paid staff at dealerships, the minimally trained washing/PDI guys touching the cars with a bargepole, but that is, of course, exactly what you get...

Interestingly I did my first "long" timed charge last night (2 Bars remaining) plugged car in at about 17:30 yesterday evening, car woke up and started charging about 22:15 (rolec charger, cheap rate), checked phone this morning and it said "Next charge at 2:00am" however it appears the car didn't wake up again for that next charge, i'm assuming it's because of the hash the dealers did again not correctly applying the update? so long story short the car was 7 bars full this morning. I've contacted EV.Energy in case they can see anything that might be problematic, but I'm going to put it squarely down to the dealers "problems" I've contacted the other local dealer to me last night via email and I'm hoping they can sort out any problems I have, I mentioned to them in the email that I would be more than willing to take the car to them in the future for any other needs, as to be honest my confidence in the dealers I bought the car from is pretty low.

So it did wake up. Can you put the graph up of the charging? And the smart charging settings?

It did initially wake up yes, as I was awake when it kicked in, but I'm assuming it was trying to minimise CO2 and would do another charge at 2am which didn't wake the car up, EV energy say that there is a bug which shows the whole time the car is plugged in at the moment not just charging time.

Thanks. That all looks like it worked. Not enough time on that window to do a full charge. You want to turn off ‘minimise CO2’. That further restricts when charges occur. You will only get one charging session per night with current software.

As you’re on Octopus, you’re ‘renewables only’ anyway.

Yeah, I did gather that might be the case with the CO2, I'll turn that option off, as you said it's renewable anyway :) Still slightly confused why It didn't kick back in at 2 am like the app said it would this morning, I wish I'd have taken a screenshot of that too tbh.
