Heating not working

The heating of the MG4 from 2023 is not working, cooling with airco works good. Went to the dealer, they gave me a car for 1 or 2 days to fix it, but after 10 (TEN!) months they gave up, they tried everything but could not fix it. Bought the car 9 months old, it was imported, but guarantee from MG for 7 years was no issue. They say the car was imported from outside the EU and therefore no guarantee. What to do now??

That sounds completely insane. Is there any more to the story? Did you buy new or second-hand? Does the car have a heat pump? Did the heater ever work, or was it faulty when you got the car? If not, when did it stop working?

That might be a good idea but this dealer, Van Mossel, is also the importer in The Netherlands, so when the importer can not fix it and is not able to provide normal gua

I bought as second hand, 5 months old, first needed heating in the next winter and started looking what might be wrong and went to the dealer in December for repair under guarantee (7 years). They took 10 months to find out what's wrong and could not fix it. If the heating ever worked I can not say, anyway not since I was the owner. If is has a heat pump I don't know, the dealer was also looking for the heat pump and found out there was no heat pump. At this moment it has become a discussion for lawyers and I think Van Mossel, as the dealer and importer has a big problem.

That might be a good idea but this dealer, Van Mossel in The Hague, is also the importer for The Netherlands!

A quick google (I know that’s not always correct) shows you can get a BOVAG warranty, even on an imported second hand car. Did you get one when you purchased the car? If so, then Van Mossel is simply wrong in their statement you get no warranty. It appears air condition is covered by Bovag warranties.

BOVAG can also mediate in any disputes between you and the dealership.

Thats one of the weird things, the only one who can tell this is MG and they say they do not know where from but not from Europe! For me it feels like I’m being f***ed by MG, thats why I hired a lawyer, despite the extra costs.

Surely as part of the buying process of an imported car, you ask the person selling the car which market it originated from and proof of that fact? Coming from a non-European market into Europe was surely a red flag in my opinion, would never have touched the car.

He said he thought the car was from Belgium, he bought the car on 17-9-2023 and on that day the car was first registerted in The Netherlands. First registration of the car was 15-9-2023 but where I can not find out, the dutch RDW (Rijksdienst voor Wegverkeer) also do not have this information. The man who sold the car said recently that he does not have anymore information, but this is hard to believe. At the time of buying the car (9-4-2024) I called the dealer, Van Mossel, and they said that a MG from Belgium has the same guarantee (7 years). But now it looks like the car is not from Belgium, but this is only registered by MG Netherlands-Belgium or Europe or China, one of them knows whats going on and is not telling the complete story.

Two days to register an imported car in The Netherlands seems suspiciously quick, considering the Belastingdienst (tax office) takes several days to process their paperwork, so even with a same day inspection by the RDW that still seems very fast. But I suppose if the RDW has that on their paperwork it is correct. Why would someone buy a brand new car only to then import it the next day to another country is still suspicious to me though.

I checked another service like this and they could not tell me where it was registered on 15-9-2023. Also RDW can not tell me, they do not have information from other countries.

I completely agree, something is not right here, but one thing is sure, it is an MG and they give worldwide 7 year guarantee. The answer can only come from MG I guess!

Any updates? My AC just broke as well - only blows cold air. Sensors are reading correct values and the heat pump isn't running (you can clearly tell as you can't hear the usual sounds). MG is really giving their best that this is the first and last MG for me. I have a service appointment for in 2 weeks - so lets see how that goes. They told me they can fix it within 6 hours (I highly doubt that). I really want to like this car but always the moment I want to forgive its faults it comes up with some new shit.

I really hope it's going to fix it self as I don't want to drive around without heating in winter for too long.

For context: I have a heat pump 2023/09 model (Luxury) and I tried everything possible that I was able to think of (reset, reset to factory settings etc..) - When calling the dealer I asked wether it's a good idea to unplug the 12V battery and they said it's not a good idea because MGs seem to have kind of a bad reputation to do weird things after this kind of "hard reset". I don't know where you live in the NL but it might be worth it to come to western Germany and ask one of our dealers. At my old dealer I had an issue with a broken tmps sensor and they told me it's not covered under warranty because I was on different tires then the car came with - Which is ridiculous. So after them going bankrupt (for the good) I went to a different one and they know how to use the MG warranty program.

It's MG Minrath Moers - quite close to the German border. Maybe give them a call?

I just checked all the fuses in the front box but with no success (would have been to easy anyway). So I now ordered an OBD dongle to check if there are any error codes (should arrive tomorrow). My service appointment is on the 18th of December.

Out of sarcasm I renamed my car from microwave to refrigerator.
