Hello,
I’m a new MG4 owner from Egypt. I attempted to install the R59 update by downloading it from [this link] and following the instructions provided [here] using a USB drive. After the update process, the system restarted but has not functioned since.

I can no longer access Engineer Mode, and the system appears to be stuck. Please see the video below for reference.

I urgently need your assistance—what should I do?

Two ways to reset:
  • Software: hold down the home button for 15 seconds and it will reboot.
  • Hardware: as above, disconnect 12V battery, wait a few minutes and reconnect.

Updating the car's software yourself is at your own risk and not something that MG will likely look kindly on. Hopefully the fix is simple.

I visited the MG dealer, and they resolved the issue for USD 120. The process took a full day, and the car was returned after 24 hours following investigation and re-identification of the control modules by unplugging and reconnecting them to the system.

Overall, it was a very bad experience caused by attempting an unofficial software update—I definitely wouldn’t recommend doing it without proper support.

So happy you got it sorted. I have heard other forum members tell of switching round infotainment systems several times, and even one who managed to install Trophy R59 on an SE without damaging the car, but this should be a lesson to all of us to be very careful what we try!

You were lucky the dealer was co-operative and I hope it didn't cost you too much money.
