Hi,
Has anyone successfully used an extension cable with their home charger?

I’m asking because my charger is at the back of my garage, where I currently charge my ZS EV. I’m soon replacing it with an MG S5, but the charging socket is at the rear of the car and my Ohme Home Pro cable isn’t long enough. Ohme wanted to charge me £720 for an extra 3m of cable!

I’ve had a look online and can see that extension cables are available, so I was wondering if anyone has used one and got on okay with it?

You can buy a replacement tethered cable from EV Cables

Somebody took the socket off a charger and stuck it on a cable!, you can even see the screw holes!
For more info, here's the extension cable on the manufacturer's website.

I use the type tagged by two others and works well , enables me to back in on the drive my MG5 and charge now or charge My Enyaq parked in front of the MG5 on the drive

This is a useful video @Alun26

The only think I'd say as a negative regarding this extension cable, the flexible boot is clearly a CV of some small powered vehicle, a worm clamp holding it onto the back of the plug and some heat shrink sealing the cable to the boot.

Firstly there doesn't seem to be any cable security to prevent the cable being pulled out of the socket. Yes, once that handshake signal is lost, the charge current is cut ... but certainly not electrically compliant

Second, that boot affair certainly isn't water proof to the required specs for an extension cable ....

Basically, it would work, but not particularly safe as far as the standards are concerned. The socket would need to be mounted into an IP 67/68 enclosure, suitably sealed with a suitable cable gland where the supply cable enters .... where the plug goes into the socket .... the whole water and dust protection goes out the window

Ratings numbers, the first number is dustproof rating, 0-6, the second number is water proof level, 2 is indoor dry area, 4 is splash resistant, 5 is rain resistant, 6&7 are heavy rain and immersion rated, under water lights etc

So, you can make the socket part safe, but apart from being on top of a tyre, not particularly water proof or dust proof, but then where it goes into the car suffers the same problem ....

For proper safety sake, get a longer 5mm² conductor cable fitted to reach are far as required, at least one less point for water and dirt entry ....
